It is rather difficult to accept it as an ancient loss, but difficult too to explain the appearance of so unusual a piece in modern times at Bar Hill.

It was found during a trial excavation at Cramond, in the occupation debris of a building which may have been outside the fort. On 14.11.55, Mrs Rae submitted a slightly worn denarius of Lucius Verus (C 156, RIC (Marcus) 491), which had been found by Miss McColm in a garden at 48 Gamekeeper's Road, Cramond. The third As is quite unworn, and is apparently in mint condition, while the other four are badly corroded but also apparently unworn. All were probably issued in the year A.D. 86. Hill . Mason: a very much worn, very much corroded Republican denarius, probably of the early first century B.C., a very much worn denarius of Vespasian (RIC 10), two very much worn denari 57450)C C wora d RI , , Vespasia f o an i n, 37 561C C n( RI , As of Vespasian (C 13, RIC 482), a worn denarius of Domitian (C 263, RIG 155), a worn sestertius of Hadrian (cf. The coin, submitted for examination by Mr Glen Aitken, 9.1.59, is not much worn, but the rev. is much corroded. It appears, however, to be of the type Ci89.

BANFFSHIRE Banff. On 8.11.57, Mr W. Kirk, Dept. of Geography, Aberdeen, submitted a fairly worn bronze coin of Constans II (A.D. 641-68), minted at , which had been found not long before by Mr G. R. Cook, when planting potatoes on the farm of Ashbrook, E. Culbeuchly, near Banff. Keith. About 1957, Mrs Riddoch found an Alexandrian coin of Aurelian, at a depth of about 12-18 in., in her garden at Forgieside Farm, Aultmore, Keith (NJ 403532). Fin d. It was said by one of his parishioners to have been found some time last century in Dumfriesshire, possibly near Dumfries. Kirkpatrick-Fleming.
