Exploring the idea of a ‘secular mass’, the programme interspersed Edmund Finnis’ new work Across White Air (for cello and reverb unit) and Relative Colour with movements from Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices, arranged for strings. The centrepiece of the unbroken programme was Jonathan Harvey’s canonic Mortuos Plango, Vivos Voco.

The centrepiece for this specially curated concert was Greenwood’s rendition of Steve Reich’s Electric Counterpoint performed in a 360-degree configuration thanks to the supply of 12 Fender ‘65 Twin Reverb amps, feeding each of the pre-recorded guitar tracks to individual amps for a true surround-sound experience!

For the final Jonny Greenwood collaboration of 2014, the LCO teamed up with leading global music streaming platform Boiler Room to broadcast the performance, resulting in over 200,000 views in just 3 days, representing a major step forward in the LCO’s ability to engage large audiences with uncompromising programmes.
