Jes Sleep out Grease school Musical by Mia doolan, 5th Year Student as all Jes students past and present know, the build up to one's Fifth Year show truly begins in First Year, when one is recruited into the all important show choir. e next four years are then spent in constant rehearsal, singing dutifully into a hairbrush and practicing bows in front of a mirror. i myself sat side stage for the 2010 production of 'Hothouse' back in the day, and watched in awe as ordinary students became momentary stars of that humble wooden stage.

e next few years flew, and on recollection, even stress at state exams paled in comparison to the gravitas carried by the auditions at the beginning of the year. We each got our parts, and both the pleasantly surprised and the majorly disappointed set to work, a testament to our work ethic here at the Jes. any negative feelings harboured were soon lost though, as we all discovered that there was a place for everyone in Grease, on or off the stage.

e next few weeks were spent 'hand-jiving' and growing out hair fit for quiffs, all while far more important stuff was happening, which i didn't notice at the time. While we were busy recording tracks and rehearsing dances, an almost magical transformation took place through out Fifth Year, and we all grew closer and flowered together. so much was accomplished with the show this year; a wonderful soundtrack recording, a dvd and of course we enthralled audiences night in night out. But our real victory was in the memories and friendships we made, the skills we learned and the inhibitions we lost, all a true measure of growth and the very reason i chose to attend iognáid all those years ago. it seems incredible that such a feat is accomplished each year in the Jes, and i do hope our gratitude as a year has reached all those who've worked so hard to make it happen. now, sadly for us, our journey on the show-mobile has come to an end, and it's the turn of our friends in TY to hop on, and the First Years can join the cue as i did long ago. i can only hope that Grease 2015 made as much of an impact on all those it touched as it did me and everyone else involved. TransiTiOn Year FUndraiser – THe cHase

Following the success of the TY economics class fundraiser e Kube last year, the current class decided to organize an event based on the popular iTv show ‘THe cHase”.

e students are busy organising the event, which will take place in the ardilaun Hotel on Wednesday 16th March. ey are gathering advertisements, designing posters and tickets, finding the contestants and of course finding a cHaser that will be hard to beat.

You will see advertisements for the event from January onwards, and the class is hopeful for the support of all families in the school as they look to raise funds to go towards the new bus.
