Separate consideration is given to films competing for the
Best Foreign Language Film Award. This award is given for the best feature-length motion picture produced with a b asically non-English sound track, first released in the country of origin between November 1, 1981 and October 31, 1982, shown in a commercial theatre for t he profit of the producer and exhibitor and selected by a r ecognized organization in that country similar to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The print submitted for award consideration must be identical with the version released in the country of origin. The picture need not have been released in the United States . Dialogue track must be predominantly in the language of the country of origin and the film must have English subtitles.
