Seychelles Music Set to Find Its Righ Ul Place in the Island's New Cultural

Seychelles music set to find its righul place in the island's new Cultural Revolu;on Five of the Seychelles most popular and famous musicians performed together in a spectacular musical show at the Internaonal Conference Centre of Victoria. Jean- Marc Volcy, Patrick Victor, Stephen Eliza, Sandra Esparon and Joseph Sinon performed some of their best songs to a dedicated group of friends and fans. Also present were the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange and the Minister responsible for Agriculture and Fisheries, Peter Sinon,as well as the PS for Culture Benjamine Rose, Mr Denis Rose and Mr Alain Volcere among many others. The importance of the Seychelles diverse music was dubbed 'a cultural revolu9on' but weeks ago by Jean- Marc Volcy. This same feeling of support being received from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and by the Minister Alain St.Ange himself was echoed by Patrick Victor, Stephen Eliza and Joseph Sinon during their performances at the Internaonal Conference Centre. Patrick Victor said that because of this support he felt that the 9me was now right for the music of Seychelles to take a new dimension and rise to new levels. Stephen Eliza used his first popular song of the evening to acknowledge the presence of Ministers St.Ange and Sinon at the show and re-echoing the appreciaon of the new respect for musicians and local music. Joseph Sinon the main driver behind the show on his part thanked Minister Alain St.Ange for his support and for believing in musicians. This musical show was to set in mo9on the planned tour mid next year of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands by these five popular ar9sts working under the label of the 'Seychelles Big 5'. Minister Alain St.Ange, the Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture said as addresses those gathered at the Internaonal Conference Centre before the start of the musical show that he congratulated the 'Seychelles Big 5' for coming together to take Seychelles music beyond the shores of the Seychelles. "Together you are like a fist, alone your remain individual fingers of a hand. But as a fist, your fingers are united for a purpose and your strength is felt. This was the message I picked from Stephen Eliza during the last press conference by the Seychelles Big 5. Tonight I want to publicly state that the Ministry of Tourism and Culture will support the performing arts to take Seychelles music to new heights" Minister St.Ange said..

Date completed: August 2006 Problem The majority of the Malagasy people who live in Madagascar are unreached with the gospel message. A preliminary investigation of current literature indicated that 50 percent of the Malagasy are followers of traditional religions. This present study was to develop a strategy to reach the animistic people with the gospel message. Method This study presents Malagasy people, their social characteristics, population, worldviews, and lifestyles. A study;and evaluation of Malagasy beliefs and practices were developed using Hiebert's model of critical contextualization. Results The study reveals that the Seventh-day Adventist Church must update its evangelistic methods to reach animistic people and finish the gospel commission in Madagascar.

Music Industries in Africa and the Interconnections with Former
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This paper is a preliminary study of the structure of the music industries in Africa. The purpose of this preliminary study is to identify the main structures and status of music industries in Africa, and to investigate, clarify and explain the possible connections between the countries in Africa and their former colonizing countries. The guiding research question was as follows: “What are the main music industries in Africa, and what are the business relationships between these countries and their former colonizing countries?” The methodologies that I used for this research were a literature review and exploratory interviews with different music professionals. The data collected from both methods was compared with secondary data from other sources, such as music industry reports and peer- reviewed articles. This research report includes an introduction to the problem area and a critical literature review, a description of the research methods used, an introduction to the participants, a presentation of the results and analysis of the research, and a discussion of the main findings. 1 TABLE OF CONTENTS 1. Ezzel párhuzamosan a modern nyugati társadalmak – hagyományos népi kultúrájuk már nem lévén – felfedezték az álta- luk leigázott és korábban lenézett szubszaharai Afrika népcsoportjai hagyományos kultúrájának a modern élethez leginkább adaptálható szeletét, a zenét és annak hangszereit. Afrikával kapcsolatban elmaradhatatlan bevezető gondolat, miszerint az afrikaiak számára a zene a születéstől kezdve az élet elhagyhatatlan része, mert szinte valamennyi hétköznapi tevékenységet, legyen az vallásos szertartás, ünnep, munka vagy gyász, de még a harcot is autentikus zene kíséri. Szintén hozzájárult az „Afrika és a zene” gondolattársításhoz, hogy az afrikai zene szerteágazó hatásai különféle zenei műfajokban, ún. world music, black music, afroamerikai és afrolatin zene, stb. fúziókban is megnyilvánulnak. Emiatt – habár mára már egyre nyilván- valóbb, hogy Afrikában sem zenélt mindenki, mert ott is adott népcsoport vagy társadalmi csoport specialistái foglalkoztak a zenei jellegű szolgáltatásokkal és a többiek csak hallgatták vagy táncoltak –, a még mindig dominánsan afrocentrikus világzene hatásának következményeként általánosan elterjedt nézet, miszerint az afrikaiaknak „vérükben van a zene”.
