FUCKED up Glass Boys
FUCKED UP Glass Boys Fucked Up are a punk band. They were a punk band when they started in Toronto more than a decade ago, and they've remained a punk band even as they've ascended to career heights that their younger selves never could've imagined. But how do you remain a punk band when you're on magazine covers, or sharing stadium stages with the Foo Fighters? How do you stay true to your 15- year-old self when you've got a career to maintain, and families to support? Those are the questions that Fucked Up asks on Glass Boys. And they ask those questions in the form of a blazing, titanic, ultimately triumphant rock album. The last two Fucked Up albums were sweeping, defining, monolithic gestures. On 2008's The Chemistry Of Common Life, they tested hardcore's capacity for stylistic innovation, for seven- minute songs and unconventional arrangements, and they won Canada's prestigious Polaris Music Prize in the process. With 2011's David Comes To Life, they offered up a full-blown rock opera, coming with one larger-than-life hook after another, and that made them even bigger, and further away from the Toronto hardcore scene that nurtured them. Glass Boys isn't a retrenchment or a back-to-basics move; it's too ambitious and complex for that. But after those last two albums, it's tight and concise and direct, an album of real and direct sentiment rather than artifice. Musically, Glass Boys carries echoes of some of the more ragged and adventurous bands from America's punk past (Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr.), but it also has some of the anthemic charge of the Who and the guttural intensity of Negative Approach. -

The book is divided into two parts: A Primer on Playing Action for Actors “Context” and “Practice.” The Context section provides a thorough examination of the theory behind the core elements of Playing Action. The Practice section provides a step-by-step rehearsal guide for actors to integrate Playing Action into their By Hugh O’Gorman preparation process. Acting Is Action is a place to begin for actors: a foundation, a ground plan for how to get started and how to build the core of a performance. More precisely, it provides a practical guide for actors, directors, and teachers in the technique of Playing Action, and it addresses a niche void in the world of actor training by illuminating what exactly to do in the moment-to-moment act of the acting task. Pacing in Children's Television Programming
DOCUMENT RESUME ED 434 364 CS 510 117 AUTHOR McCollum, James F., Jr.; Bryant, Jennings TITLE Pacing in Children's Television Programming. PUB DATE 1999-03-00 NOTE 42p.; Paper presented at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (82nd, New Orleans, LA, August 4-7, 1999). PUB TYPE Reports Research (143) Speeches/Meeting Papers (150) EDRS PRICE MF01/PCO2 Plus Postage. DESCRIPTORS *Childrens Television; Content Analysis; Preschool Education; *Programming (Broadcast); Television Research IDENTIFIERS Sesame Street ABSTRACT Following a content analysis, 85 children's programs were assigned a pacing index derived from the following criteria:(1) frequency of camera cuts;(2) frequency of related scene changes;(3) frequency of unrelated scene changes;(4) frequency of auditory changes;(5) percentage of active motion;(6) percentage of active talking; and (7) percentage of active music. Results indicated significant differences in networks' pacing overall and in the individual criteria: the commercial networks present the bulk of the very rapidly paced programming (much of it in the form of cartoons), and those networks devoted primarily to educational programming--PBS and The Learning Channel--present very slow-paced programs. 1 Roundabout March 3, 2020 Next Week Our next Celebration of Service will be March 10 in the IMU Georgian Room. We will hear from clinical neuroscientist and athletic trainer Seisuke Kawata on the frontiers of research at IU on repetitive head impacts in sports. Dr. Kawata is an assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology in the School of Public Health. He also is a faculty member in the neuroscience program. During his undergraduate years at Henderson State University in Arkansas, he worked as an athletic trainer with the NFL Detroit Lions, MLS Sporting Kansas City, ESPN Wide World of Sports, and MLB Atlanta Braves. While earning his Ph.D. at Temple University, he conducted a series of clinical neuroscience studies to study the effects of repetitive head impacts, referred to as sub-concussions. His current work centers on blood biomarkers and the ocular-motor system to evaluate acute and chronic changes from sub-concussive head impacts. His laboratory at Indiana University is currently conducting a wide array of research in both field and laboratory settings in sports and military cohorts, aiming to understand the short- and long-term effects of sub-concussive brain damage and to establish clinical guidelines to prevent chronic brain deficits in athletes and military service members. Rotarians in the News Long-time Rotarian Bob Zaltsberg will be inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame in Indianapolis on May 16. Dr. Judy DeMuth, superintendent of Monroe County Community School Corporation, announced her retirement at the end of this school year. Henk Haitjema is recovering from major surgery and will soon be able to have visitors. -
