Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Crusher, with day-to-day work direction from the Crusher Foreman, the Crusher Operator is a safety sensitive position and is responsible for working with the crushing team to operate the crushing plant, ensuring effective operations to maintain or exceed quality and production goals. The Crusher Operator is responsible for adhering to Health and Safety Legislation and the County of St. Paul safe work policies and procedures always, ensuring the protection and safety of self, co-workers, the public and environment.

The duties, responsibilities, and scope of this position may, from time to time, be amended, altered, or changed by the County of St. Paul No. 19 (the County) acting reasonably to meet the business, community, and/or regulatory needs of the organization. Key Responsibilities

Crusher Operator in Plant (85% summer; no winter operation)

• Adjusting levers to regulate flow of materials to from conveyors, chutes, pumps, or storage bins. • Starting crusher and prodding, breaking, or discarding lumps to prevent plugging, using bar, , or jackhammer. • Adjusting equipment, such as screen and conveyors to control or vary size or grade of product, or to maintain uniform flow of materials. • Sieve testing gravel for quality. • Keeping records of material processed. • Operating plant, monitoring panel board or control board to control feeding, crushing, and sifting machinery in sand and gravel pits. • Observing gauge, dials, and operation of machinery to ensure conformance to processing specifications. • Operating a track hoe, loader to move pit run (uncrushed gravel) into crusher, and a rock truck to stock pile gravel. • Rotating through crusher plant tasks as required or directed.

General Maintenance of Crusher (10% summer; 50% winter permanent positions)

• Cleaning and lubricating equipment.

Crusher Operator February 4, 2019 • Assisting in maintenance of plant equipment and in compiling reports regarding plant production, plant maintenance. • Documenting and reporting any issues that need to be corrected. • Providing information to the County on any delays, unsafe situations, accidents, equipment breakdowns, or other maintenance problems.

Other Duties (5% summer; 50% winter permanent positions))

• Attending and participating in training as required. • Adhering to Health and Safety Legislation and the County of St. Paul safe work policies and procedures always, ensuring the protection and safety of self, co-workers, the public and environment. • In winter, for permanent positions: • Working at Mallaig arena (seconded) • Operating a small 1-tonne plow truck • Assisting gravel exploration Reporting Relationships

• The following are required in this position: • High school diploma or GED. • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license. • Knowledge of and ability to operate a loader and rock truck in a safe manner over a variety of terrain, and to safely load and unload pit run (uncrushed gravel) into crusher. • Ability to perform all job functions required in a safe manner to avoid personal injury, injury of others, and equipment or property damage. • Being accountable for own actions, punctual, and organized on the job, ensuring that work is conducted at a steady and efficient pace. • Ability to maintain attention to detail. • Good English verbal skills that allow for clear communication and information exchange.

Crusher Operator February 4, 2019 • Ability to establish and maintain respectful and effective working relationships with others, and to manage conflicts that may arise in a respectful, inclusive, and calm manner, ensuring a positive attitude is employed in day-to-day work. • The following are considered assets or preferences in this position: • Valid Alberta Class 3 or Class 1 driver’s license. • Mechanical aptitude and welding knowledge. • Understanding sieve analysis for quality control. Working Environment, Physical Conditions and Capabilities

• This position works in a gravel crushing plant, exposed to noise and dust, as well as conveyor belts, crushing equipment that require the position to be fit for work and to operate in a safe manner for self and others. • May be exposed to weather conditions loading pit run (uncrushed gravel) into crusher. • Physical requirements include: standing, walking, bending, sitting when driving, routinely lifting up to 100 lbs/45 kgs with assistance, getting in and out of a cab of a . • Climbing ladders up to 2.5 meters. • Good depth perception and hand-eye coordination are requirements of this job. • Use of hands, finger dexterity for manipulating the controls while operating equipment and plant is required. • This is a safety sensitive position.
