Date: 17 September 2006 FIA GT Championship Date: 17 September 2006 FIA GT Championship - Two Maserati MC12 on the podium Circuit: Mugello, length 5,245 km Meteo: cloudy, air temperature 25° C Cars: - n° 1: Maserati MC12 Vitaphone Racing Team; chassis n° 15439 Drivers: Andrea Bertolini (I) - Michael Bartels (D) - n° 2: Maserati MC12 Vitaphone Racing Team; chassis n° 15443 Drivers: Jamie Davies (UK) - Thomas Biagi (I) - n° 40: Maserati MC12 Playteam; chassis n° 22797 Drivers: Giambattista Giannoccaro (I) - Toni Vilander (FIN) - Alessandro Pier Guidi (I) The seventh round of the FIA GT championship concluded today - Sunday 17 September - on the Tuscan circuit of Mugello. It was one of the most difficult races of the season owing to the testing weather. Michael Bartels-Andrea Bertolini and Jamie Davies-Thomas Biagi's Maserati MC12s came home second and third in a thrilling end to the race. Bartels was only 4"723 off the pace of the winners, Wendlinger-Peter (Aston Martin DBR9). The Maseratis beat off the challenge of the Saleen S7 R driven by Bert-Montermini-Janis and the Aston Martins with Pescatori-Babini and Deletraz-Piccini on board. Thanks to these results, Bartels and Bertolini strengthened their grip at the top of the Drivers' championship over Deletraz and Piccini. Vitaphone Racing Team also maintain first place in the Team standings. At the start of the three hour race and in driving rain, Andrea Bertolini sped off to keep hold off the pole position he had earned in qualifying. Finn Toni Vilander's Scuderia Playteam Maserati MC12 edged past Montermini's Saleen, to move into second. Vilander claimed top spot on lap two, a position he held for the entire first hour. Following the pit stop, he handed over to his team mate, Alessandro Pier Guidi, but the Playteam MC12 was soon forced to retire, giving Bertolini the opening to retake the lead. The other Vitaphone Racing Team Maserati started from eighth with Jamie Davies at the wheel but managed to climb the field. At the end of the second hour, the two Vitaphone Maseratis were firmly in control courtesy of Michael Bartels and Thomas Biagi. The surface slowly dried out and this created some uncertainty as to the choice of tyre. The final pit stops were made between laps 61 and 63, allowing the tyres but not the drivers to be changed. Half an hour from the end, the classification saw Wendlinger (Aston Martin) leading, followed by Bartels, Deletraz (Aston Martin), Biagi and Babini (Aston Martin). It was at this point that Biagi mounted an incredible comeback, sweeping past Deletraz on lap 74. The Hungarian circuit of Hungaroring (Budapest) will host the next round of the FIA GT championship on 1 October. Michael Bartels "I am very happy as we have two cars on the podium and I have to thank Davies and Biagi for this as I started from row four in demanding conditions. Bertolini did well in the first hour in the rain, even though I thought the safety car would be needed at the start. I thought it was a little difficult". Jamie Davies "The start was critical as visibility was very limited. This was the reason why I did not push on at the beginning. I thought that it would be a drawn out race and, as such, useless taking risks. Biagi was superb in driving hard for two stints. Together with Pirelli, we conducted a good test in using rain tyres, intermediates and slicks in the course of the race". FIA GT Championship, final classification at Mugello: 1. Wendlinger-Peter (Aston Martin DBR9) 86 laps; 2. Bartels-Bertolini (Maserati MC12) + 4"723; 3. Davies-Biagi (Maserati MC12) + 5"149; 4. Bert-Montermini-Janis (Saleen S7 R) + 5"510; 5. Pescatori-Babini (Aston Martin DBR9) + 34"079; 6. Deletraz-Piccini (Aston Martin DBR9) 1'03"602 FIA GT Championship for Drivers (after seven races): 1. Bartels e Bertolini 57; 3. Piccini and Deletraz 47; 5. Bert 42; 6. Janis 41; 7. Davies and Biagi 36; 9. Babini 35; 10. Hezemans, Longin and Kumpen 26 Teams: 1. Vitaphone Racing Team 93; 2. Aston Martin Racing BMS 47,5; 3. Press Release November 15, 2014 No. M 215/14 Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC, round 7 in Sakhir/Bahrain - Race GT Best Porsche 911 RSR narrowly misses podium placing Stuttgart. Despite an inspired charge through the field on the Bahrain International Circuit it was not enough for the Porsche 911 RSR to secure a podium spot for the first time in this year’s sports car World Endurance Championship, two weeks after a brilliant double victory in Shanghai. In the number 91 Porsche Team Manthey 911 RSR, Porsche works drivers Jörg Bergmeister (Germany) and Richard Lietz (Austria) scored fourth place in the highly competitive GTE-Pro class at the penultimate round of the season in the Kingdom of Bahrain at the Persian Gulf. Their factory pilot col- leagues and Shanghai winners Frédéric Makowiecki and Patrick Pilet from France saw the flag in fifth at the wheel of the number 92 vehicle. It was already clear in qualifying that the Porsche 911 RSR would face a difficult race in the hot and humid weather conditions on the 5.407 kilometre Grand Prix circuit outside the capital of Manama. For this reason, the Porsche Manthey squad decided to use a different strategy than the opposition. During the early first safety car phase, the two works vehicles from Weissach were called into the pits for servicing, while the competition stayed out on the track. At first this strategy looked as if it might work: After the first hour of racing, Richard Lietz was running at the head of the GT field with Frédéric Makowiecki close behind on second place.

  • Michelin, Le Pilier Des 6 Heures De Silverstone

  • Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Dominates at Daytona, While Corvette Racing Claims Podium Honours in Florida
MEDIA INFORMATION 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Round 1: Rolex 24 at Daytona Ford Chip Ganassi Racing dominates at Daytona, while Corvette Racing claims podium honours in Florida Chip Ganassi Racing’s two Michelin-equipped Ford GTs dominated the GT LM class at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, opening round of the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Despite fierce competition from Ferrari, Porsche and BMW, as well as constant pressure from Corvette Racing’s brace of cars, Ryan Briscoe, Richard Westbrook and Scott Dixon steered the N°67 Ford GT to the weekend’s win, finishing 11.166 seconds clear of team-mates Joey Hand, Dirk Mueller and Sébastien Bourdais in the N°66 sister car. The two Ford GTs led for all but nine of the 783 laps (4,486km) completed by the fastest GT Le Mans cars around the 5.73km track to beat the distance record for the class that had stood since 1992. It was the third victory in a world-class 24-hour endurance race for the Ford GT after its previous successes at Le Mans in 2016 – the year of the car’s launch – and at Daytona last January. The result also saw Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) notch up its 200th race victory (IndyCar, NASCAR, IMSA, FIA WEC, etc.) following a perfect weekend for Mr. Ganassi himself who was named Grand Marshall for the 56th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. “Twenty-four-hour races always present a wide range of challenges, both known and unexpected, and this race was no exception,” said Chris Baker, Director of Motorsport, Michelin North America.
