Great success for Porsche customer teams at the premiere of the WEC Sports Car World Endurance Championship in Mexico: With the Porsche 911 RSR, Abu Dhabi Proton Racing won the GTE-Am class at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit with the team celebrating its maiden WEC victory in front of 38.000 spectators. Sharing driving duties in the cockpit of the 470 hp winning racer from Weissach was Porsche’s works driver Patrick Long (USA) with Khaled Al Qubaisi (Abu Dhabi) and David Heinemeier Hansson (Denmark). The KCMG squad with Por- sche factory pilot Wolf Henzler (Germany), Christian Ried (Germany) and Joel Ca- mathias (Switzerland) secured the third podium spot after a gripping six-hour race. Gulf Racing rounded off the sterling performances from Porsche customer teams with the all-British line-up of Ben Barker, Michael Wainwright and Adam Carroll clinching fourth place. In the GTE-Pro class the situation was looking promising for third place for the Por- sche works drivers Richard Lietz and Michael Christensen in Dempsey Proton Rac- ing’s 911 RSR, but as rain set in about halfway through the race on the Mexico City Grand Prix circuit at a 2,310-metre altitude, they dropped down the field after making an unfortunate tyre choice. The pair took the flag in sixth place. Race quotes Richard Lietz (Porsche 911 RSR #77): “My first stint was good with consistent lap times.

  • Earl Bamber Moves Into Overall Lead Earl Bamber Celebrated His Second Win of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Season
newsroom null Aug 24, 2014 Earl Bamber moves into overall lead Earl Bamber celebrated his second win of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season. In Spa, the Porsche Scholarship pilot moved to the top of the overall points’ standings. When the field set off into the eleven-lap race on the 6.973 kilometre circuit, Bamber immediately pulled to the front of the field in his 460 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup which is based on the seventh generation of the 911. But after several hundred metres, the New Zealand slid sideways in the legendary Eau Rouge passage, opening the door for Thiim to sneak past. After his scare, the 24-year-old, who contested his 50th race in a Porsche at Spa, caught the Dane and launched a hefty attack to regain the lead spot. Once Bamber finally managed to squeeze past Thiim in lap six, the path was clear to clinch his second win of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season. “Our fight was tough but very fair,” said Thiim (second place) summing up events. “Earl’s a great racer,” he admitted. Third place went to Porsche junior Klaus Bachler (A/Konrad Motorsport). “Fastest in free practice, pole position, victory and now the points’ leader – what a perfect weekend. I’m over the moon,” exclaimed a beaming Bamber. Porsche junior Klaus Bachler pleased with third place Bachler seemed very pleased with third place: “I started from fifth on the grid and ended on the podium. I love the challenge Spa presents and I earned important points.” Porsche junior Sven Müller (D/Team Project 1) managed to salvage fourth place despite coming under heavy fire from his trailing teammate Philipp Eng (A/Team Project 1).

Despite being the shortest of the endurance races on the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship schedule, the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen is traditionally one of the most difficult. That was proven today here at Watkins Glen International as the two-car Porsche 911 RSR factory effort, Porsche North America, finished fifth and eighth in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class. The Team Falken Tire customer-owned Porsche 911 RSR finished ninth. The GT Daytona class battle was equally intense, as Magnus Racing took third in their Porsche 911 GT America followed closely by the Dempsey Racing Porsche 911 GT America in fourth. Porsche 911 RSR Starting tenth, the No. 911 Porsche North America Porsche 911 RSR ran consistently near the front of the GTLM pack throughout the six-hour race. With works drivers Nick Tandy (Great Britain) and Richard Lietz (Austria) splitting driving duties on the historic track in the Finger Lakes region of New York, the No. 911 was seventh as a caution flew with 10-minutes remaining. A dedicated effort by safety and corner workers cleared the caution-causing incident with time for a last lap battle to the checkered flag. Entering the last corner of the 3.4-mile, 11-turn facility, several cars made contact ahead of the No.

BAD LUCK DENIES LARBRE COMPETITION PODIUM IN BAHRAIN SEASON FINALE French GT experts dominated the beginning of the race Fastest lap confirms pace on #50 Corvette C7.R Having led the 6 Hours of Bahrain (17-19 November) after a thundering start, Larbre Competition were still fighting for a fifth FIA World Endurance Championship LMGTE Am podium of the season with 75 minutes to go, when their #50 Corvette C7.R suffered damage as a result of contact. The Le Vigeant-based squad eventually crossed the line in fifth, but underlined their level of competitiveness as they picked up the fastest lap of the race. For the final round of the season, Romain Brandela returned to partner official Corvette Racing USA driver Ricky Taylor and former European Le Mans Series champion Pierre Ragues. The raceÕs twilight format made practice all the more important and Larbre got their weekend off to a promising start, setting the second fastest time overall on Thursday, as they focused on the evolving track conditions whilst night fell at the Sakhir circuit. Taylor and Brandela continued to demonstrate the #50 Corvette C7.RÕs strong pace on Friday, as they equalled their best qualifying performance of the year with third place. Larbre enjoyed a great start on Saturday, as Taylor stormed into the lead of the LMGTE Am class by the end of the first lap. The American maintained his position throughout his opening stint and opened up a decent gap, before handing over to Brandela. The Frenchman ran into traffic, but kept the #50 Corvette C7.R in the fight for the podium.
