Gorlice Region Region is located in the south- east of , on the river Ropa, by the mountains of Low Beskid and the hills of Pogórze. It is off the beaten track, far from cities and main tourist attractions.

In the region there are Austro- Hungarian from , where soldiers killed in Gorlice Battle are buried.

Also, a number of old Orthodox, Greek Catholic and Catholic churches are situated right in Gorlice area. Low Beskid Low Beskid is an extensive mountainous region in the south- east Poland.

In Low Beskid you can find stone crosses and roadside chapels located in unexpected places. You can find wooden churches, surrounded by cemeteries in abandoned villages. Also, there are the WW1 cemeteries, reminding us about the history of this land.

Biecz is one of the oldest in the south of Poland. It was founded in 1257. It was a royal , surrounded with defensive stone walls.

Biecz lies on the river Ropa, it is often called „Little ” thanks to its medieval walls, preserved until present times.

The village of Bartne is located about 20 km from Gorlice and 15 km from the border with .

The village is very long, about 7 kilometers, situated in a valley. It is inhabited by Lemko people.

In Bartne there are two wooden churches, traditional houses, a parochial and a war and several roadside crosses reminding us of people from the past.

The village of Bielanka Bielanka is a village where the inhabitants used to produce birch tar, a medicine used for healing. Birch tar, alongside with its side products was sold by travelling people of Bielanka.

Bielanka is a Lemko village, one of many in the region. The village of Bieliczna The place where once Bieliczna was located is one of the most picturesque in Low Beskid. Until WW2 there was a Lemko village with 34 households.

Bieliczna was founded in 16th century and it was abandoned in 1947.

Tourists can see a beautiful Greek- from 1796, a few old stone crosses and roadside chapels.

The town of The town is located in the valley of the Biala River, 25 km from Gorlice.

Although the town is small, it is very old- it was founded in 1339.

It is a place where bobbin lace has been made for centuries. Since 2000, an international festival has been held to present and sell bobbin lace.

Gorlice Gorlice is a small town of about 30 000 inhabitants, located in the south- east Poland, not far from the border with Slovakia. The town was founded by Derslaw I Karwacjan in 1354.

Gorlice is an important point of the Oil Tourist Trail, as it was the place where Ignacy Lukasiewicz, the inventor of oil lamp, worked.

The town developed until 2nd , when the Battle of Gorlice took place, and 90% of the town was destroyed.

At present times Gorlice is a starting point for tourists to go to the Low Beskid mountains.

Klimkówka Klimkowka is a dam on the Ropa River. It was built in 1994 as a water reservoir for Gorlice and as a power station.

It is also a tourist and sports resort for .

Magura Małastowska Magura Malastowska – a summit in Low Beskid, 813 meters above sea level.

On the slopes of Magura Malastowska there are 3 WW1 cemeteries as well as trenches.

Also, a ski slope popular with the inhabitants of Gorlice is located there.

MAGURSKI NATIONAL PARK Magurski National Park was created in 1995. It is located partly in Malopolskie and Podkarpackie voivodships.

Magurski National Park is home to interesting animal and plant species, typical for Carpathian forest. You can observe bears, lynxes, wolves, beavers, salamanders and many, many more.

The village of Sękowa Sekowa was founded in 1363 by king Kazimierz Wielki.

The wooden Catholic church in Sekowa is on UNESCO World Heritage List. The village of Szymbark At mediaeval times Szymbark was a defensive manor house of Gładysz family.

Around the house (built in 1540), a village was built. During World War I there were fights and as a result 3 war cemeteries were built.

You can visit now an open air museum of Pogórzanie ethnic group, and the restored manor house where now a regional museum is located.

UŚCIE GORLICKIE Uście Gorlickie is a commune with touristic and spa valours, located in the heart of Low Beskid, next to the Ropa River.

Clean air, woods and meadows, interesting species of plants and animals make it an interesting place for tourists. WYSOWA ZDRÓJ Wysowa is a spa located in the valley of the Ropa River. It is surrounded with the mountains and forests of Low Beskid, and as a result it has a unique microclimate.

Tourists visit Wysowa to drink mineral waters with sulphur, iron, sodium and other minerals.
