On February 2, 2008 at approximately 9:40 PM, Gilroy Police Officers responded to a 911 call reporting an unknown disturbance in the 700 block of Maria Dr. Upon arrival, the officers met the victim of a stabbing in the front yard of a residence. Officers secured the scene and obtained medical attention for the severely injured victim. Officers obtained information about the Suspect, and eventually located him in the carport area of the home where the stabbing occurred. The Suspect was identified by numerous witnesses at the scene and taken into custody. Based on the information obtained at the scene, it appears the Suspect and Victim knew each other prior to this altercation. The weapon was recovered at the scene.

The Victim was transported to a hospital in San Jose with severe, but non-life threatening injuries. During the altercation, the Victim lost the tip of one of his fingers. Officers on scene located the severed appendage and transported it to San Jose, but doctors were unable to successfully reattach it.

Eliud Aguilar Hidalgo, a 29 year old Gilroy resident, was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for charges of , with a Deadly Weapon, Mayhem, and unrelated Bench Warrants.
