4. National Geographic Magazine map showing The Travels of George Washington. A colored 18" x 28" map published in 1931. The large map shows the Eastern Seaboard and red tracings depict Washington's travels from to . Five insets are of New York, , and Tidewater, Virginia and one of Mount Vernon. Drawer 8638

5. Territorial Limits of the Cherokee "Nation of" Indians. This 1884 Royce map shows the old boundaries of Cherokee lands in , , , Virginia, , South Carolina, and . A colored 28" x 31" map. (Two copies, one in very poor condition). Drawer 8599

7. United States; A 1795 (with additions to 1802) Arrowsmith Map of the United States (the seaboard and trans-Appalachian areas) west of the Mississippi is called . A folding cloth backed 25" x 28" black and white map. Drawer 8599

8. United States; A replica of the Mitchell Map of the British and French Dominions in North America, 1755. A black and white 26" x 36" map. There is very little activity west of the Blue Ridge. West of the Mississippi River, are the counties of the Cenies and Padoucas and immense meadows "full of buffaloes" and " (Missouri) full of mines." Drawer 8599

12. and Canada; Canoe Routes into Superior National Forest and Quetico Provincial Park. A green and white 19" x 28" map with the routes marked in red. Issued in 1930 by Border Lakes Outfitting Company, Ely, Minnesota. Drawer 8599

13. Mississippi River Valley, showing the flooded areas of the Flood of 1927 along with field operations of the Red Cross. The area covered extends from the Mississippi delta area northward to Cairo, . A tri-colored 20" x 46" map, published in 1927 under the auspices of Herbert Hoover. (This map is too large for the folder and is kept loose in the same drawer.) Drawer 8599

14. South Central U.S.; A Regional Aeronautical Chart. A colored 27" x 45" chart, extending from Fort Worth across to Meridian, Mississippi on the south, and from Wichita, eastward to Evansville, Ind. on the north. Included are Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Shreveport, Little Rock, Jackson, Memphis, and Springfield. (This map is too large for the folder and is kept loose in the same drawer.) Drawer 8599

15. Central and Gulf Coast Areas; An old Drury College Map, 1879 of "The Southwestern States." The area so labeled covers most of Texas and Indian Territory, except for the extreme western portions of those states. Kansas, , Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi are also covered, as are parts of Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky. A multicolored 27" x 39" map published in St. Louis, by Woodward, Tiernan & Hale, Printers, Map Engravers, & Co. (A torn and fragile old map.) Drawer 8599

16. "Carte Particuliere"; 1743 French map of the Gulf Coast and the territory between the Alabama River and the Mississippi River. Forts Natchitoche, Natche, Mobile, Tombecpe and DeLassomption along with French settlements and Indian towns are marked. A negative copy from the Library of Congress. 29" x 32". Drawer 8599

17. "Gettysburg." A military terrain map of the surrounding area. Special map no. 8 - Army Extension Courses. Reproduced at the Command and General Staff School at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, 1930. A colored 34" x 45 map. Drawer 8599

18. Virginia, Maryland. 48" x 32~ brown, black, blue and red map of the east coast from Washington D. C. to Norfolk, Virginia. Map has a very detailed listing of all railroads and Map Collection #6: Eastern United States

19a. New York. 28" x 40" full color Rand-McNally map listing counties, cities, towns, roads, railroads, rivers and lakes. Includes inset of Long Island and place name index, 1907. Drawer 8599

19b. Hudson River. 21" x 6" blue, black and brown on white map of the Hudson River from New York to Tarrytown. Map lists streets, navigation channels, landforms and townships, 1907. Drawer 8625

20. Heritage Trail; A red and blue 11" x 8" map of historical New England. Drawer 8638

21. Eastern U.S. Carte De L'Amerique (A reconnaissance map of the war between the English and the Insurgents). 1777. This map was made by Franck Engineers and General Washington in the Revolution, for General La Fayette. Most of the terms are in French. A black and white 16" x 21" map. Drawer 8638

22. Eastern U.S. "A Correct Map of the United States of North America Including the British and Spanish Territories, carefully laid down agreeable to the Treaty of 1784 by T. Bowen, Geographer." An outstanding full color copper-engraved map by Thomas Bowen. "Engraved for Banke's New System of Universal Geography." Texas contains such towns as "Nadaca", "Mondique", "Nacanne", and "Chorumans", with "Cannessis", "Quirereches" and "Chacacants" in what is now Oklahoma. Modern Missouri in "Extensive Meadows Full of Buffalos", while the southeastern part of that state is "Country Full of Mines". In present Minnesota about 100 miles above the Falls of St. Anthony is the note: "Thus far the Misisspi has been ascended". In present-day Iowa are the "Mascoutans or Nation of the Fire." Northwest of Lake Superior is the "Nation of the Bear". Scores of other tribes are shown throughout. This map is the second map on page 865 of Phillips (a). A color outlined 12" x 17" map. 23. Eastern U.S. Map of the United States before 1800 engraved for the Compendious Geographical Grammar. A 5" x 6" color outlined map showing the area between the Atlantic and the Mississippi. Georgia extends from one to the other. West of North Carolina is an area labeled Tennessee Government. Several Indian tribes are named. Drawer 8638

24. Eastern U.S. A black and white 8" x 10" map of the United States from Arrowsmith's large map by Cadell and Cavies in 1802. Monomonis, Pootewatomis, Ootawas, Meames, Cadodaquis, Arkansas and Weautenaus are a few of the strangely spelled Indian tribes located on the map. Drawer 8638

25. Eastern U.S. 1808 map of the United States by C. Smith, published in London. is divided into East and West. Georgia extends to the Mississippi. The region south of the Map Collection #6: Eastern United States

Great Lakes is Western Territory and present Illinois is labeled the . Kentucky and Tennessee both have several towns. A color outlined 10" x 14" map. Drawer 8638

26. Eastern U.S. An 1833 hand colored copper-engraved map by David Burr. Extends westward to about the 100th meridian. It is divided into modern states as far west as Missouri (with a vertical western border) and Arkansas. Everything beyond that and north of the Red River is Missouri Territory, except Wisconsin which is "Huron Territory". An inset shows South Florida. An 11" x 13" rare map. Drawer 8638

27. Eastern U.S. H. N. Burroughs 1846 map of the United States. A colored 12" x 15" map showing 27 states and a large Wisconsin Territory. Several early and very short railroads are located also. Excellent condition. Drawer 8638

28. Lake Superior Area. Historical map of the Grand Portage. A pictographic map by the Grand Portage Band of Chippewa Indians, 1946. A colorful map with considerable information printed throughout. A 15" x 21" map. Drawer 8638

29. The Old . (An area bounded by the Great Lakes on the north, the River on the south, and the Mississippi River on the west). A colorful pictographic map telling the history of the area and how the United States came into possession of it. Issued for the Northwest Territory Celebration Commission by the Federal Art Project, Works Administration of Ohio. A 16" x 22" map with the Ordinance of 1787 printed on the reverse. (Wrinkled). 30. Region to the west of Lakes Superior and . A black and white 7" x 12" 1851 engraving by Capt. S. Eastman, from Schoolcraft's Indian Tribes. Shows the boundaries of the Ojibwa, Menomonee, Winnebago and Dakota tribes. A very scarce map. Drawer 8638

31. Magoffin County, Kentucky. A 12" x 14" blueprint drawn from memory after an absence of 50 years by W. E. Connelley. Shows the region around Salyersville area on the Licking River. Drawer 8638

32. Southeastern U. S. A black and white 6" x 7" engraved map from the Fifth Annual Report of the B.A.E. The "Earliest Map Showing Location of the Cherokees-1597". Labeled as Florida et Apalche. Shows the location of (presumably) Indian capitols, such as Chalaqua, Medano, Xuala, Quigata, Aihusj and several others equally as strange. The Mississippi River is here labeled R. de S. Spirito and takes a quite westerly course upstream a ways from its mouth. Drawer 8638

33. Southeastern U.S. 1703 French map of Florida and the northern Gulf coast. "Carte Du Mexique Et De La Floride". A black and white 9" x 10" partial reproduction showing many Indian tribes and rivers with French names. Drawer 8638

37. "Map of the States of Mississippi, Louisiana and the Arkansas Territory". A 10" x 16" black and white map showing the settlements, counties and Mississippi River system. Circa 1836. A few Indian villages are located. Drawer 8638

38. The Lower Mississippi (New Orleans vicinity) showing points visited by Victor Tixier during his tour, 1839. A black and white 7" x 15" map. The delta passages to the Mississippi are named, as are the small settlements along the river above New Orleans. Drawer 8638

39. Georgia with parts of North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida. An important map by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge. A 12" x 16" color outlined map. has not yet been founded. Northern Georgia and eastern Alabama lack counties and are occupied by the Cherokees and Creeks. Numerous forts and Indian villages are shown. Rare map printed in London dated 1833. Drawer 8638
