Over the years, we have made numerous visits to the picturesque cities of Mexico’s colonial heartland, among which Zacatecas, Morelia, Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende have been designated World Heritage sites by UNESCO. Our favorite remains San Miguel, partly because of its steep cobblestoned streets, pretty pastel houses and grand 17th-century Spanish architecture, but also because of its exuberant and festive atmosphere.
