Some highlights for me this season include: - • Winner of the SSJCA Junior Club Championship (5 th time since 2000) • Premierships to the 12A Junior team & A2 Senior Team • Finalists to the 10A, 12A, 14A, 16A & 10C Junior Teams & A2, B5, B6, B7, B8 & C1 Senior Teams • An all girls team U8(B2) • Record player and team numbers – 17 Junior Teams & 12 Senior Teams. • A new micro-fibre supporters shirt & new design players cap which will be ready for next season • A $3,000 competition win in the Weetbix challenge Congratulations to our 12A & A2 teams for being crowned premiers for 2009/10 season. To have 11 teams contest in the finals series shows how strong our players have performed this year. There were many good individual & team performances which have been acknowledged throughout this year book and highlights the efforts of all players & officials. What is pleasing to me this year is that we have seen record numbers playing for the Dragons in both junior & season divisions. Our recruitment drive within the local school community led by, Jim Lee, Neil Croker and our club coach Robbie Knight saw record new players joining our club. Our all girls team who played in our U8 division had a fantastic year developing their skills and continuing friendships from their winter sport. Thank you Rob & Kerrie Smith for encouraging these girls and we hope for more girls will follow. With 12 men’s teams, also a record, we saw many players returning to the club, or continuing their careers from the junior ranks. It was also pleasing to see a new senior team formed from parents and friends of our U10 team who acquitted themselves very well in the C1 competition. Whilst going down in the Grand Final, it was an outstanding effort on the field and a great opportunity for many new friendships to be formed. Our U/10 development squad continues to assist our up and coming U8 players to make the transition to traditional cricket that little bit easier. Peter Schofield and his son put the boys through their paces with an army of helpers & we thank all concerned for their time & efforts as this programme is here to stay. The club is very proud that our players and officials continue to support the SSJCA in their endeavour to improve cricket at all levels. A number of our players have represented the shire and beyond whilst our officials volunteer their services & time, umpiring, coach, managing or join relative committees. The trivia night this year was well supported, especially with donations from the Cox, Smith & Knowles families, and we also saw the return of Ken Newman as our host, which was greatly appreciated. To the parents, coaches, managers and scorers your continued support and friendship is appreciated and we look forward to your ongoing commitment to the club. I am aware that a couple of committee positions will become available at our Annual General Meeting in June and therefore I would encourage you to become a volunteer for the benefit of our cricketers. Bill Knowles has informed me that after 20+ years of service to our club he will not be reapplying for his position, as along with Glenys they plan to spend a little more time travelling. Bill, thank you for your dedication & commitment over many years as it has been an absolute pleasure to work with you. Our secretary of four years, Craig Rice has taken up a new role as secretary of the Sutherland District Grade Club. Craig has certainly made a difference in his tenure and I personally thank him for his friendship and guidance and I am sure he will keep an eye out for Dragons players coming through the grade ranks. Harry Robbins continues to support the club with his school holiday clinics, and his write ups in the Engadine District News are a masterpiece and he continues to be an inspiration to us all. We do appreciate the support of our sponsors and I encourage everyone to shop & support these businesses. 4 In closing let me say that I am already looking forward to the new season and please keep up to date with any club news from our state of the art website www.engadinedragonscc.org.au Steve Jones “TRIBUTE BOX ” Throughout this Yearbook you will see “TRIBUTE” Boxes signifying a job well done. We ask you to note these businesses and people for the invaluable contributions they have made to our club. SECRETARY’S REPORT This year will be my last as Secretary of Engadine Dragons after 4 years in the role and 11 seasons with the club – a role that I have been privileged to hold and one that I have definitely enjoyed. I have moved onto being the Secretary of Sutherland District Cricket Club Inc this year and have found that juggling both Secretary roles (plus the paying job!) as a bit of a stretch. So you can see I will still be heavily involved in cricket administration and look forward to seeing as many of the Engadine juniors coming through the grade cricket ranks in years to come. This year has been another very successful year for the club, with the following highlights as a key for me: • We had record numbers in both junior and senior players; • We had an all girls team which is a major milestone and it would be great to see this expanded in years to come; • The volunteer base at this club is second to none – including coaches, managers, scorers, BBQ cookers, committee members. The behind the scene roles played by the likes of Ian Latham, Harry Robbins, Bill Knowles and Bob Price are exceptional; • We contribute strongly to the SSJCA and SSCA via committee and delegate roles with Andrew Mazurkiewicz, Jim Lee, Tony Marciante, Allan Lofthouse, Peter O’Reilly and myself playing important roles. This has led to our club having an excellent reputation in Shire cricket circles; • We were SSJCA Junior Club Champions again – this reflects the efforts of all teams across the club over the 10 rounds and is a highly valued recognition of our overall results • Rob Knight has worked hard in his new role as coaching co-ordinator and will continue to bring new ideas to the club in future seasons to improve the skills of all junior players; • Our Trivia night was a great success and our thanks go to Ken Newman in his last year as MC of proceedings.

The towering figure of Tony Greig. It’s 40 years since World Series Cricket changed everything, from the way the game was played to the way it was televised – the way, in fact, sport was televised. It introduced coloured apparel, lights, day-night Tests and one-dayers – the list is endless. People look back now with fondness at the WSC revolt, suggested at first by Dennis Lillee, instigated by some of the world’s best players, funded by Kerry Packer. Two of our interviewees, Clive Rice and Tony Greig, are now sadly departed, but our intrepid correspondent, CRISPIN ANDREWS, had long-ago managed to get their thoughts on the Packer revolution. He managed to track down many of the other protagonists recently. Here are their memories of one of the biggest upheavals ever witnessed in world sport. INSIDE CRICKET 51 DECEMBER 2017 Packer faces some of the music he helped create, after the news of WSC broke. n December 2, 1977, an Australian and didn’t hesitate to sign, and then sign up as team captained by Ian Chappell faced “I’D PUT IT ON THE much talent as he could, for Packer’s “circus”, Clive Lloyd’s West Indians at as it was dubbed then.
