The Integrin alpha 2B chain interacts with the Integrin beta 3 subunit/CD61 to form the platelet glycoprotein complex, gpIIb/IIIa. It is expressed on platelets and megakaryocytes. Ligands for the gpIIb/IIIa heterodimer include fibrinogen, von Willebrand factor, fibronectin, vitronectin, and thrombospondin. The gpIIb/IIIa complex is the major Integrin on platelets and is important for platelet adhesion and aggregation. The alpha IIb-Integrin subunit is a specific marker for platelets and megakaryocytes and can be utilized for this purpose in various immunological techniques. Synonyms: Integrin alpha-IIb, GP2B, ITGAB, GPalpha IIb This product is to be used for laboratory only. Not for diagnostic or therapeutic use. ©2021 OriGene Technologies, Inc., 9620 Medical Center Drive, Ste 200, Rockville, MD 20850, US 2 / 2.

They are transmembrane αβ heterodimers and at least 24 distinct integrin heterodimers are formed by the combination of 18 α and eight β known subunits (PMID: 17543136; 20029421). In addition to mediating cell adhesion, integrins also play important roles in modulating signal transduction pathways that control cellular responses including migration, proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis (PMID:19118207).
