4 Academy Awards: Notes

Players may be nominated for representative cricket in Essex or Cambridgeshire if they are considered ready to perform at such a level. However, playing at this level relies on commitment as well as talent. If you feel you would like to be considered or if you feel you or your parents cannot make this commitment, please speak to your manager.

Highest batting average min. 5 innings/Lowest min. 10 overs. Because young players play so few matches we don’t insist on 5 ‘completed’ innings before they qualify with an average. This is not the case in senior cricket. Please note that a more accurate picture of performance can be gained the more overs bowled or the more innings batted. A low minimum has been chosen to involve as many players as possible in the statistics. Overall batting and bowling awards are made by managers in consultation with coaches and others. There are no definitive criteria.

Club caps awarded to any established Academy player taking 5 in one match (including 5 stumpings and/or catches by a keeper), scoring a century, playing at County level or being a first choice selection for the senior SWCC teams or village teams with whom SWCC have a formal arrangement. From 2009 Club caps will be awarded to girls for taking 3 wicket/catches, scoring 50 in a match and for County or adult selection.

Players’ Player may be awarded on the basis of Player of the Match nominations over the course of a season or a vote amongst other squad members.

Academy records have been compiled since 2003. There may well be superior performances before that – just let us know.

The Alfred Adams Batting Award. Alfred Adams scored 279 by batting all day against Bishop’s Stortford for SWCC on the Common on 11 July 1837. At the time it was the highest recorded individual score in the country. Fiona Harris was the first woman to play competitively for SWCC in 2002. She still plays for SWCC when she can. John Smith first played for SWCC in 1946 and retired in 1963 at the age of 35. He is the tallest of the team in many of the clubhouse photos of the 1950s and 60s. John passed away in 2009

Josh Bysouth was an u13 Academy player when he died in a car accident with his Grandfather in 2012

Academician of the Year is awarded to the academy player who has made the strongest commitment to his or her own development and to the work of the Academy and Club. It may be related to the “Clubman of the Year” award for each age group.

Jack Petchey Awards were given for outstanding personal achievement 2006-2015. The club withdrew from the scheme in 2015 – it did not recognise youngsters under the age of 11 and the criteria for awards became unduly restrictive. It has been replaced from this season with the Rajapack Award Scheme sponsored by Rajapack (www.rajapack.co.uk). The club will receive £100 for every century, 3 catches and 5 wickets in a single match in senior cricket from u16 upwards. We will also receive £100 for every 50 and 5fer and 3 catches in junior T20 cricket and similarly £100 for every 30, 3 wickets and 2 catches in girls and Crocus cricket. In junior T20 matches played with a “retire after 30 runs” rule, then a Rajapack award goes to players getting 30 5 runs in each of two matches.

In addition: Rajapack will support the Players’ Player in each junior team (presented at Academy Awards evening) and senior team (presented at Player Presentation Evening). Again, for each award the club will receive £100. Junior Players of the year are usually elected by team mates, senior ones nominated by the team .

We currently do not issue individual medals or trophies, preferring to issue certificates. This maximises involvement and keeps costs low. However, sponsors for individual trophies shown on the previous page are always welcome.

Review of season SWCC U15 reached the Final of the CYCA U15 NatWest Cup (won by Granta U15) and finished Champions of their CYCA U15 League. 25 boys selected from the U15, U14, U13 and U12 squads represented the club. A great season for a tight group of talented, dedicated, determined and happy cricketers. Harry G bowls a fierce nut, Louis swings it miles, TC does it all, The Ben Express, Brad hits umpire on purpose, Elliot's first wick, Arthur bats with style, Josh keeps it tight, Hayden hits BIG (and once missed a straight one), Captain Sam (and the Yips), Lukas throw down, Harry scares bowlers, Adam all-round all-Star. Review of season 2016 was not defined by the wins but by the squad’s development in many aspects of the game. A strong bowling side, they palpably benefited in the areas of batting and fielding, from a dedicated team of top level coaches, to become a respected competitive side in the U12 Cambs. League. The team should also be commended for its’ loyalty and commitment to the squad and club, with most players returning for a third consecutive year of cricket!

Managers Steve Temblett, Tom Rodda Coach Steve Oakey Captain Louis Temblett Vice captains Harry Ball/Adam Oakey Review of season : A successful season overall despite the weather ! With no Cup or WE League at U14, we entered our U14 squad in the CYCA U14 League and WE U15 League. With only one Division in CYCA U14, we emerged County Champions, topping the League. Playing up in the U15 League was more challenging, but we won more than we lost and acquitted ourselves well in a higher age group. 22 players played at in at least one match through the season, and all who played showed great teamwork, commitment and spirit.

Captain On rotation Vice captain On rotation Review of Season: Another good season for the u12’s, just missed out on qualifying from our Peter Coe group beating all teams except very strong sides from Springfield and Wansted. CYCA matches had issues with rain! Bardfield league unbeaten 6 out of 6 with Hugh Craig cup final to be played in early September against Dunmow.

Manager Matt Clare & Vince Taylor Coach Steve Livermore

Captain Rotated Vice Captain Rotated Review of season This was a tremendous season of development and achievement for all the squad which reached 36 players by the end of the season, and almost all played competitive cricket. We won the West Essex league with a 100% record, were second in the CYCA U11B league and third in the WEDCB Terriers. A particular highlight was a run to the Semi-Final of the CYCA Cup. The standard of play has improved steadily over the season and the boys trained hard and enjoyed their cricket; they were a pleasure to coach and manage.

Squad 2016 Crocus

Manager Dan Thomas Coaches Dan Thomas Kevin Duers, Laura Annette Leeman Ketteridge, Matthew Wiles Captain Vice Captain Review of season The Crocus team continues to play in the Essex Disability and Community Trust League which is organised by Essex County Cricket Club. The four teams that are in the league currently play kwik cricket tournaments throughout the year, indoors during the spring and then moving outdoors for the summer. This year the Crocus team has increased considerably in numbers and now has about 10 enthusiastic players whose strength and technique has greatly developed over the season. This year we have won three out of the five tournaments with one still to play. The other Essex Teams are Harold Wood, Springfield Lions and Basildon Spitfires. Thanks must go to coach Daniel Thomas for his great commitment to the coaching throughout the year and also running a lunch time session at the County High School. He has also brought on board Matt Lewis, Laura Ketteridge who has helped immensely with training sessions throughout the summer. Thanks must also go to Annette Leeman for all the admin & travel arrangements. Thanks must also go to all the parents and grandparents who have supported the team this year and cheered us on in our home tournament for the first time in 3 years. Particularly those who have helped with transport whenever needed.

They have learnt well from the coaching sessions, applying this to matches. There were some very good performances week on week. Manager Byron Sindell, Mark Vaughn Coach Niraj Odedra and Richard Hardy Captain Rotated Vice Captain Rotated Review of season This was the first time that the club u8s have entered into a competitive cricket league, joining the u9s in the West Essex U9 Terrier League. Overall they won 5 games and lost just 2 games. Special mention must be made of the 3 u7 boys who played a number of games and added some real class to the team – Jonny Rumsby, Charlie Hoyle and Alexi Demitriou-Foale – all played with great maturity. It was a fantastic first season and the game was played in the right spirit. The Butterflies also had 4 friendly games against Wendens Ambo and won 3 and lost 1 game. It was a great season for the teams who gained invaluable experience for the future.
