Cosmic Attack is one lucky band! We are truly blessed to be able to work with not one but two of best players in the Pittsburgh scene. With the combination of Jason Caliguri (2017 BSWPA Best Guitarist) and Matt Barranti (2017 BSWPA Best Band Winner & touring Guitarist for ) The most original rock cover band in Pittsburgh was instantly transformed into a Musical Juggernaut. What makes Cosmic Attack unique is their well calculated song choices and their incorporation of Brass into the Blues. CA’s own musical genius Nate McMahon combines Baritone, Tenor, Alto, Soprano Saxes, even Flute into a high energy Jamband setting. Fronted by Vocalist Terry Filia-Popovich her sultry voice and stage presence is second to none. They also feature one of the best rhythm sections around, Dave Whaley and Mark Popovich are so tight they complete each others sentences. Like Donald “Duck” Dunn said “ they turn goat piss into gasoline”. Cosmic Attack bridges the gap between the great days of East’s Psychedelic Blues Bands and today’s scene ala Allman Brothers, Gov’t Mule, Tedeschi Trucks and Black Crowes, Heavy High Energy at its finest…….. What’s really impressive about Terry’s voice is its raw power. Known as “The female Chris Robinson” her sultry voice and stage presence are second to none. She’s not afraid to tackle the raspy male vocal styles of Greg Allman, , as well as Janis and Sue Tedeschi. Terry’s voice is what makes a good vocal band into a great vocal band. Whether she’s taking to lead or backing parts her voice cuts through with clarity and strength. She is also an accomplished songwriter, guitar- ist and a master of percussive instrumentation………...

Matt is one the most accomplished guitar players in Pittsburgh. 2017 has been a great year for Matt. He just got off the road as lead guitar player for the legendary FOGHAT touring the USA. Slow Ride Baby! His solo band just won the BSWPA Best Band and will be going to Memphis to represent the “Burgh”. He’s influenced by such legendary players as , , Wes Montgomery, , , and many others. Over his 30+ year career he has also shared the stage with , Toy Caldwell, Thom Doucette, Reo Speed- wagon, Jeff Healy to name a few. Matt is constantly growing as a Guitarist, Musician and Teacher. The BEST Slide Guitarist around!! We are proud to have him as part of the Cosmic Attack Family......

Jason Caliguri just won a major award 2017 BSWPA Best Guitarist in Pittsburgh!! He is also well known in Pittsburgh scene as the guitarist for Jimbo & the Soupbones. Jason Started his musical journey at 11 years old. Mentored by local blues/ legend Larry Belli, Jason was heavily influenced by guitar greats like Stevie Ray Vaughan, and George Benson. His guitar playing is extremely dynamic he can make the guitar cry softly or scream at the top of its lungs…… All in one 3 minute solo…. Simply Amazing! Plus he opened up for BON JOVI at PPG Arena…… Now that’s pretty cool!

The rhythm foundation begins with Mark Popovich with his 30+ years of experience playing metal, rock n roll, country and blues. His main early influence was bassist Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. Mark took his aggressive bass technique added in a little from the Allman Bros then refined it with a little Stax’s Donald “Duck” Dunn and finished it off with a little bit of Motown’s James Jamerson. This mix makes his playing style aggressive yet simplistic. A perfect match for Cosmic At- tack’s heavy Jammin’ and improvisation………..

In 2017 Nate got his Music Degree from IUP. He is a true musical genius! He brings the brass to the Attack. He can play any instrument. He’s influences are , , Dick Parry and Clarence Clemons. He specializes in tenor, alto, soprano even flute. He has the deepest understanding of music theory…. One day he will teach the bass player the difference between Major and Minor.

Dave Whaley is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet and he’s one hell of a drummer. His favorite drummers are , Steve Gadd and Elvin Jones. You can hear these influences come out in his jazz funk syncopated beats. Hailing from the Southside of Pittsburgh, Dave is a staple in the local music scene and has played with way to many bands to list here…...

A great thing about being in a band for many years, We’ve had the opportunity to play with some great players. But we have never played with people so honest hard working and professional. They are the real thing! Music is what they do and music is who they are, plain and simple. The musical chemistry is off the charts… The way these musicians play off each other is truly amazing. Well worth the price of admission! Matt and Jason’s dueling , Nate’s Jazzy Jazzy improv, Dave & Marks Tight Tight Rhythm Section, Terry’s vocals and Vibe… Cosmic Attack is a truly unique band… Check em out!
