Laboratory and Field Experience Intern (May 2014 - August 2014) – State Historic Park Royal, NE Assisted in excavation, laboratory preparation, and public interpretation of unique Miocene death assemblage of complete skeletons preserved in situ at the park.

Field Assistant (June 2014) – Bighorn Basin Expedition Worland, WY Assisted in surface collection and wet screening as part of combined Duke University and University of Florida crew investigating the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum in the American interior.

Animal Husbandry Intern (January 2014 – May 2014) – Knoxville Zoological Gardens Knoxville, TN Cleaned enclosures and prepared food and enrichment in great apes (chimpanzee, gorilla, and blue monkey) and grasslands (giraffe, water buck, Thompson’s gazelle, and zebra) departments. Also involved preparation of end of semester project demonstrating potential applications of R for zoological management.

Field Assistant (Summers, 2010 – 2013) – East Tennessee State University And General Shale Brick Natural History Museum Gray, TN Assisted in excavation and laboratory preparation at Miocene and Pleistocene Saltville Prehistoric Site. Also participated in research project investigating sexual dimorphism in fossil red panda known from the site, funded by NSF award number 0958985.

Lab Assistant (August 2012 – December 2012) – Paleoenvironmental Lab (Dr. Sally Horn), Department of Geography, University of Tennessee Knoxville, TN Performed data collection on mollusks from soil cores taken at the Younger Dryas Cuatro Cienagas site in Mexico, using light and electron microscopy.

Lab Assistant (February 2012 – December 2012) – Zooarchaeology Lab (Dr. Walter Klippel), Department of Anthropology, University of Tennessee Knoxville, TN Identified fragmentary vertebrate skeletal material from St. Kitts archaeological digs using comparative collections.

Research Assistant (February 2012 – May 2012) – Alison Boyer Lab, Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, University of Tennessee Knoxville, TN Identified sub-fossil bird and material from cave deposits in New Caledonia using comparative collections and performed independent research project comparing taphonomic preservation of bird material in owl pellets with that of reptiles and .

Field School Participant (March 2012) – Allendale Archaeological Expedition, South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of South Carolina Martin, SC Assisted in excavation at Pleistocene Topper and Bubba archaeological sites.

Archaeology Lab Assistant (August 2010 – December 2010) – McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture, University of Tennessee Knoxville, TN Processed archaeological material in collections for long-term curation.

Physical Anthropology Representative (Fall 2012 – Spring 2013) – Undergraduate Anthropology Association of the University of Tennessee Knoxville, TN Undergraduate organization of the Department of Anthropology. Helped organize meetings and events, including fundraisers and Relay for Life, and convey information and opportunities relevant to physical anthropology to group members.

Vice President (Fall 2010 – Spring 2013) – Secular Student Alliance at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Knoxville, TN Active in founding UT organization for secularist and non-religious students. Lead and organized meetings and events, including 2012 panel discussion “SB 893: Teaching Alternatives or an Attack on Science?” concerning a controversial science education bill in the Tennessee legislature, and the group’s support of a 2012 Freedom From Religion Foundation letter concerning prayer at UT football games.
