Reid iving cephalopods include nautiluses, bobtail and bottle squids, pygmy cuttlefishes, cuttlefishes, Lsquids, and octopuses. While they may not be as diverse a group as other molluscs or as the bony fishes in terms of number of species (about 600 cephalopod species described worldwide), they are very abundant and some reach large sizes. Hence they are of considerable ecological and commercial fisheries importance globally and in the Western Central Pacific. Remarks on MajorREMARKS Groups of CommercialON MAJOR Importance GROUPS OF COMMERCIAL IMPORTANCE Nautiluses (Family Nautilidae) Nautiluses are the only living cephalopods with an external shell throughout their life cycle. This shell is divided into chambers by a large number of septae and provides buoyancy to the animal. The animal is housed in the newest chamber. A muscular hood on the dorsal side helps close the aperture when the animal is withdrawn into the shell. Nautiluses have primitive eyes filled with seawater and without lenses. They have arms that are whip-like tentacles arranged in a double crown surrounding the mouth. Although they have no suckers on these arms, mucus associated with them is adherent. Nautiluses are restricted to deeper continental shelf and slope waters of the Indo-West Pacific and are caught by artisanal fishers using baited traps set on the bottom. The flesh is used for food and the shell for the souvenir trade. Specimens are also caught for live export for use in home aquaria and for research purposes. -

Pimenova Siberian Federal University 79 Svobodny, Krasnoyarsk, 660041, Russia Received 14.07.2017, received in revised form 08.08.2017, accepted 21.08.2017 The main areas of topical researches in the field of ecological values of various social groups, their influence on pro-environmental behavior and connection with environmental knowledge in Russia and other countries are studied in the article. The existing ecological situation in the Krasnoyarsk Territory is identified. The results of practical studies that reveal the contradictory nature of the value orientations of various demographic groups in the Krasnoyarsk Territory are considered. Conclusions about the current situation of this field of knowledge in the largest region of Siberia – both in the scientific community and in the public sphere are made. Keywords: ecological social values, pro-environmental behavior, ecological situation, demographic groups, the Krasnoyarsk Territory. We analyze the dynamics underpinning the Russian Bitcoin mining industry. Russia’s Siberian region houses the dominant share of the country’s mining facilities. A significant energy surplus from advanced hydropower infrastructure in the region enables miners to secure extremely competitive electricity rates. A federal law passed in 2020 clearly defines Bitcoin mining as an economic activity but will require entities to operate in a specific manner. Mining hardware that will be used for proprietary mining must be owned in the name of a foreign entity. -

HOLOCHOANITES ARE ENDOCEROIDS ROUSSEAU H. FLOWER, New York State Museum Albany 1, N. Y. INTRODUCTION The Holochoanites may be defined as those cephalopods in which the septal necks are so elongated that they extend from the septum of which they are a part and a prolongation, apicad to the next septum, or even farther. Hyatt (1884) first regarded the Holochoanoidea as one of two major divisions of the Nautiloidea. Later (1900) he replaced his other division, the Ellipochoanoidea, by four divisions the Orthochaonites, Cyrtochoanites, Schistochoanites and Mixochoanites, and changed the name Holochoanoidea to Holochoanites for uniformity. In the mean- time, further study caused him to modify the contents of the holochoanitic division materially. Some genera originally placed in this group, such as Trocholites, proved upon further study to possess ellipochoanitic septal necks. The genus Aturia, while properly holochoanitic, was removed, because it was recognized that it represented a development of elongated septal necks in Tertiary time, which was obviously quite unrelated to that of other holochoanitic cephalopods, few of which survived the close of the Ordovician. Miller and Thompson (1937) showed that the elongation of the septal necks in Aturia was a secondary feature and the ellipochoanitic ancestry was indicated by the retention of connecting rings. It was believed that the Holochaonites proper contain cephalopods in which the long necks were primitive, and no connecting rings were developed. Unfortunately Hyatt does not seem to have committed himself on his ideas concerning the relationship of the Holochoanites with other cephalopods. It is not clear whether this was because of his preoccupation with the phyletic sig- nificance of early stages and the controversy that developed about the origin of the Ammonoidea and their relationship to the Nautiloidea, or whether he was as much perplexed by the problem as have been those of us who have come after him in the study of cephalopods. -

Yacobucci, Advisor Ammonoids are known for their intraspecific and interspecific morphological variation through ontogeny, particularly in shell shape and ornamentation. Many shell features covary and individual shell elements (e.g., tubercles, ribs, etc.) are difficult to homologize, which make qualitative descriptions and widely-used morphometric tools inappropriate for quantifying these complex morphologies. However, spatial analyses such as those applied in geographic information systems (GIS) allow for quantification and visualization of global shell form. Here, I present a GIS-based methodology in which the variability of complex shell features is assessed in order to evaluate evolutionary patterns in a Cretaceous ammonoid clade. I applied GIS-based techniques to sister species from the Late Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway: the ancestral and more variable Hoploscaphites spedeni, and descendant and less variable H. nebrascensis. I created digital models exhibiting the shells’ lateral surfaces using photogrammetric software and imported the reconstructions into a GIS environment. I used the number of discrete aspect patches and the 3D to 2D area ratios of the lateral surface as terrain roughness indices. These 3D analyses exposed the overlapping morphological ranges of H. spedeni and H. -
