We are particularly interested in the promotion and encouragement of young artists; fostering relationships between international and Montréal based artists; and encouraging cross-genre collaborations. Le Caribou Sonore focuses on musics that occupy the peripheries of established musical cultures. Examples include free improvisation; select contemporary musical practices and trends; sound-art; electro-acoustic music; and music by living composers. It is our belief that the outlying spaces these genres occupy allows for a greater fluidity between aesthetic philosophies, pedagogies, and methods. This unorthodox convergence on the outskirts of standard practice helps to foster artistic innovation that is both compelling and relevant. Co-Sponsors Le Caribou Sonore is able to present this workshop through the generous support of and in collaboration with: Suoni per il Popolo,, the Improvisation, Community and Social Practice (ICASP) research group of McGill University, Productions SuperMusique, L’Off Festival de Jazz, and the Canada Council for the Arts. .
