Mephiri’s Character Reference Sheet Name: Mephiri Colors/Affinity: Red and Artifacts Species: Efreet Class: Barbarian Biological Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: Whatever anyone wishes it to be Physical Description: Mephiri usually presents himself as a bipedal horse-like skeleton wreathed in flames that is at least twelve feet tall; He is never seen without his shackles adorning his wrists and ankles, no matter what form he is currently presenting himself as In his natural form, Mephiri is nearly seven feet tall, dark-skinned with a reddish tint, and has hair the colors of a burning forest. He keeps a neat, pointy goatee, but his hair is always wild and long and free. He almost never wears clothing. Personality: Mephiri likes to trick people with false promises and “monkey’s paw” wishes, as is the way of the Efreet. He is extremely-covetous, and is incredibly- envious of the freedoms that non-Efreeti and non-Djinni people have to follow their dreams, his own wistful dreams being the only things that kept him going for so long in his prison. Speech Quirks: Mephiri speaks in riddles and rhymes, and never directly says much of anything without obfuscating it within some quirky limerick. Quote: “I could grant your deepest, darkest desires and make them flesh. I could inflict such pleasures upon your body. Simply utter the words and make those dark promises, and swear them to me as if I am the devil you are so afraid of meeting.” Plane of Origin: Rabiah the Infinite Planes Visited: Alara the Reborn, Dominaria/Dominia, Innistrad, Kamigawa, Rabiah the Infinite (his home plane), Ravnica, Shandalar, Wildfire, Zendikar Notable Mentions: The Barbarians of the Pardic Mountains – Mephiri visited Dominaria early into his Planeswalking career, curious to see what the most famous realm in the Multiverse had to offer one such as him. He spent a good deal of time in the Pardic Mountains, delighted by their superstitious warrior ways. The People of Innistrad – Innistrad was the first Plane Mephiri Planeswalked to, having been sent there when his Spark ignited. There, he masqueraded as a wandering merchant, taking a page out of Nebuchadnezzar’s book. He ripped a lot of Innistrad’s people off, both literally- and metaphorically-speaking. Sir Joseph of the Smith – Mephiri hates Sir Joseph, and he can’t even figure out why. It may be jealousy, or it may be that he was the first of his fellow Planeswalkers he ever set eyes upon. Either way, he follows his movements closely whenever he can. Major Life Moments: Being worshipped by a tribe of Ouphes in his frenetic youth; Becoming trapped in a magical set of saddlebags by a crafty drunkard of a “merchant”; Bringing about a small civil war by granting a warlord’s wishes for gold by stealing said gold from another nation’s warlord; Being granted his freedom by accident, which also ignited his Spark; Meeting Sir Joseph How Their Spark Ignited: Mephiri had been trapped within a magical set of saddlebags for nearly seven-hundred years, until he brought about a civil war by granting a wish for gold and not being told where to get it from. A general in the army that had destroyed his former Master’s palace took said magical set of saddlebags as a trophy, not knowing their secret. He loved his horse, and so he often said that the saddlebags belonged to her, which was the technicality that Mephiri needed to achieve his freedom. The criteria for summoning him from his prison was contact with the item’s owner’s blood, which inevitably happened being worn by a horse often spurred into war. He tricked the horse into using a wish to release him from his bindings, which wasn’t a terribly difficult feat, and then murdered the horse and her faithful rider in a fiery inferno, also destroying his former prison. This act of malice came with a price, as the winds changed and he was immolated, his pain and fury at having been cheated so close to freedom sending him across the Blind Eternities to Innistrad. Special Training: Mephiri has read the teachings of King Suleiman, and has learned much from the dreams of his previous owners. He has a special penchant for fire and trickery, and learned luck magic and wish granting, as all Efreet must. He finetuned those crafts amongst the barbarians of the Pardic Mountains in Dominaria. As nearly all Efreeti, Mephiri can shapeshift and fly. Goals: To never be imprisoned again; to figure out why he is so fixated upon Sir Joseph; to exploit the wishes of fellow Planeswalkers .
