BULLITT COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS 1040 HIGHWAY 44 EAST SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY 40165 REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION March 21, 2006 7:00 p.m. MINUTES OF RECORD The Bullitt County Board of Education met at Zoneton Middle School, 797 Old Preston Highway, Shepherdsville, Kentucky, 40165, at 7:00 p.m. on March 21, 2006, with the following members present: (1) Mr. Michael Robison (2) Mr. Gary Wooldridge (3) Mr. Layne Abell (4) Ms. Karen Wood (5) Mr. Sammy Allen CALL TO ORDER 199- The March 21, 2006 regular meeting of the Bullitt County Board of Education was called to order by Board Chairman Layne Abell. ADOPT THE AGENDA 200- Motion made by Michael Robison, seconded by Sammy Allen, to adopt the agenda as presented. All members voting YES. PRESENTATIONS 201- Zoneton Middle School Principal Mr. Harley Wise welcomed the Board and audience. 202- Mr. John Roberts awarded Certificates of Recognition to the 2006-07 District and School Teachers of the Year. The 2006-2007 District Teachers of the Year are Ms. Sheri Hamilton of Mt. Washington Elementary, Ms. Sandy Bayens of Bullitt Lick Middle and Mr. Timothy Lands of Bullitt Central High. The 2006-2007 School Teachers of the Year are Ms. Gina Beasley of Brooks Elementary, Ms. Christine Mitchell of Cedar Grove Elementary, Ms. Jody Densford of Freedom Elementary, Mr. Dennis Minnis of Maryville Elementary, Ms. Sheri Hamilton of Mt. Washington Elementary, Ms. Brenda Hutchison of Nichols Elementary, Ms. Marsha Outlaw of Old Mill Elementary, Ms. Joann Marquart of Overdale Elementary, Ms. Crystal Russell of Roby Elementary, Ms. Anna Schneider of Shepherdsville Elementary, Ms. Sandy Bayens of Bullitt Lick Middle, Ms. Susan Carlisle of Eastside Middle, Ms. Beverly Stangel of Hebron Middle, Ms. Phyllis Bergant of Zoneton Middle, Mr. Timothy Lands of Bullitt Central High, and Mr. Chris Logan of North Bullitt High. 203- Mr. Mike Smith of Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects gave an update on the construction projects in the district. 204- Mr. Harry Dumesnil of K. Norman Berry Associates Architects gave an update on the renovation projects and upcoming new construction projects in the district. Dr. 03/21/06 2 Eberbaugh asked board members for permission to explore design work for a second floor at Bullitt East High and North Bullitt High Schools. Board members agreed. 205- Mr. Keith Davis and Mr. Glenn Gaines presented information on energy education. Board members expressed interest in the program and authorized the drafting of a contract. Mr. Davis and Mr. Eric Farris will work with representatives with Energy Education, Inc. on a contract to present to the board at a future meeting. 206- Dr. Mike Hicks gave a PowerPoint presentation on the Extended School Services (ESS) programs in the district. CONSENT ITEMS Financial Reports 1. Detailed Orders of the Treasurer for February 2006 were submitted for review. 2. Monthly Summary Reports were also submitted for review. They included: a. Annual Budget Report b. Balance Sheet c. Monthly Report – Period 8 Bids 1. Permission to Bid – Workers’ Compensation Insurance Mr. Keith Davis requested permission to participate in the KEDC bid for Workers’ Compensation Insurance. If bidding is necessary, the bid will be need to be awarded at the June 2006 Board of Education meeting to go into effect July 1, 2006. 2. Permission to Bid – Insurance Mr. Keith Davis requested permission to participate in the KEDC bid for Property, Equipment, Boiler/Machinery, Fleet, Commercial General Liability, and Educator’s Legal Liability insurance. This is necessary only if the current insurance carrier fails to submit a satisfactory renewal rate for 2006-2007. 3. Permission to Bid – Grass Mowing Mr. Steve Thompson requested permission to advertise for bids for the grass mowing services for the facilities of Bullitt County Public Schools. The new agreement will run from July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007 with an option to renew for three additional years. The current agreement expires June 30th of this year. Packets will be sent seeking bids for the entire district and also by individual sections (East/Central/North) with individual schools within each. The specified equipment is a requirement for all bids. 03/21/06 3 Travel 1.
