39Th-PAWD-Convention-Invitation.Pdf The Arroyo Fountain was constructed in 1927 at the junction of Iznart and General Luna Streets in memory of Senator Jose Ma. Arroyo who authored Act No. 3222 in the Philippine Legislature establishing the Iloilo Metropolitan Waterworks (IMWW) in 1925. It was built as a project of then Iloilo Gov. Jose B. Ledesma together with Board Members Domingo Mabunay and Engracio Padilla, District Engineer Alejo Aquino and Treasurer R.S. Van Valkeburgh. Situated diametrically in front of the old Iloilo Provincial Capitol (now called Casa Real), the fountain is said to be the earmark of the province. It has a very distinct feature that one cannot think of Iloilo every time he sees it. The sculptural design of the Arroyo Fountain is a good example of Eclecticism derived from Greek classical art. It is a fitting tribute to the seat of the provincial government and serves as a foreground focus to the seat of power. OUR COLLEAGUES IN THE WATER INDUSTRY: We cordially invite you to the 39th National Convention of the Philippine Association of Water Districts (PAWD) on February 7-9, 2018 at the Iloilo Convention Center, Iloilo Business Park, Megaworld, Mandurriao, Iloilo City. Water belongs to everyone but particularly to no one. The Water District, as a water service provider, is very privileged to be given the responsibility of providing the most essential need of man – water. However, with the fast-paced economic growth coupled with both climatic and non-climatic stressors that affect water security, the roadmap for water supply and sanitation is fast changing as well. Water districts are now faced with a myriad of challenges that inevitably affect their operations, but will push them harder to innovate and find solutions to pressing problems besetting their water utilities. With the theme, “Water District Options and Solutions to Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation”, the convention will provide a venue for all stakeholders in the water industry to come together to provide holistic and appropriate approaches to similar and distinct challenges faced by water districts in the country. The event will serve as an opportunity, too, for the delegates, experts and authorities in the water industry to share their experiences and best practices in resolving issues that have ultimately helped them achieve efficient and effective water and sanitation services. So, join us as we learn from each other and share experiences with one another. See you in Iloilo City! Very truly yours, ANGELO S. HIDROSOLLO ALMA L. 2021–2029 Iloilo City Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) Volume 1 Preliminary Pages 3 City Planning and Development Office i 2021–2029 Iloilo City Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) Volume 1 Preliminary Pages Message from the Mayor Our beloved Iloilo City has progressively built on its glorious past to usher in a present, which is a source of pride and hope for our people, and an inspiring benchmark for our neighbors in Western Visayas, and beyond. Yet we are not a people who rest on our laurels. We aim higher. We move further. We scale greater heights. We level up. To level up Iloilo City, we begin with the end in mind. We need to envision a future where our city is livable, sustainable and resilient. We aim for a culturally vibrant and economically well-developed city where governance is a shared responsibility and where people are innovative and creative. We dream big, yet we stay realistic. We know that our collective journey as Ilonggos towards our envisioned future has to factor in developments in our external environment. Prudence likewise dictates that our resolve to level-up needs to consider our strengths and weaknesses as a local government unit and as a community. We need to assess our competencies and our resources, particularly our land and its current and future uses, so we are well-informed in determining the best development strategy to level up Iloilo City. I am, therefore, most pleased that we have already crafted the 2021-2029 Iloilo City Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP), which is a product of a series of consultations with various sectors.
