Emilio Estevez asked for Bon Jovi 's "Wanted Dead or Alive" as the theme song for his upcoming Billy the Kid sequel, but Jon Bon Jovi ended up composing an all-new theme song for the film's soundtrack instead. It also received Academy Award and Grammy nominations. The album mainly focuses on the theme of redemption and whether an individual's past wrongs will catch up with them. Another theme on the album is about making a stand and making yourself heard in the world. The album more or less transitioned Jon's songwriting from mostly girls and having a good time to other subject matters, which would lead into him and his band 's further maturing in songwriting with 's Keep the Faith. Emilio Estevez originally approached Bon Jovi to ask him for permission to include the song " Wanted Dead or Alive " on the soundtrack. This was the first time that "Blaze of Glory" was heard. Fusco called his co-producers into the Blaze of Glory to listen, and it was named the theme song for Young Guns II on the spot. He declared he'd written 'Blaze of Glory', which of course then went through the roof in the States. He later gave Emilio Estevez the napkin. We were munching burgers while he wrote a No. Made Blaze of Glory feel stupid. The song is also quoted in the film High Fidelity. The album peaked at No. The title track "Blaze of Glory" was released as the first single and hit No. Ina country duet version of " Bang a Drum " was released with country singer Chris LeDouxthe track was released as a single with a music video and reached number 68 on the US Hot Country Songs chart. It was written and produced by John Fusco and directed by Geoff Murphy. Jon Bon Jovi also made a cameo appearance Blaze of Glory the film as one of the prisoners in the pit Blaze of Glory Doc and Chavez. All songs written and composed by Jon Bon Joviexcept where noted. • Experiences of Place in the Work of Ed Ruscha and Andreas Gursky
ACCESS: CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN EDUCATION 2010, VOL. 29, NO. 1, 10–20 Destination anywhere: Experiences of place in the work of Ed Ruscha and Andreas Gursky Kristen Sharp RMIT University ABSTRACT This paper examines how the meaning of place and identification with place can be produced through photographic images of the city. As an aesthetic, social and cultural practice, photography provides a way of imagining place and a means of knowing and classifying the urban spaces. Photographic images of the city can be understood as a form of aesthetic knowledge production, which represents and enacts the experiences of the urban environment. The urban spaces imaged by artists Ed Ruscha and Andreas Gursky, in the 1960s and 1990s respectively, actively represent and perform the symbolic and material properties of urban spaces. By exploring the ways that these artists read and map city spaces and how they articulate an experience of the city that engages with the identification of place, an argument is presented about how this process and imaging can be situated in relation to anthropological and geographic concepts of place. More specifically, what this paper explores is how their work demonstrates a sense of place that is complex and mobile, which can oscillate between notions of site specificity, identification and non- place as defined by Marc Augé. The significance of place in a global world In recognition of contemporary processes of globalisation there has been reconsideration of the meanings of space and place in a period defined by “time-space compression” (Harvey, 1990) and flows of people, objects and ideas (Urry, 2000, 2003; Appadurai, 1996).

  • The Roots Report: America at Twin River
The Roots Report: America at Twin River Okee dokee folks… “Fifty years was not in the plan, but as long as you keep coming we’ll keep playing,” exclaimed Dewey Bunnell of the band America last Friday night at Twin River Casino’s Event Center. America was started as a trio in England by the sons of American Air Force servicemen stationed in England — Bunnell, Gerry Beckley and Dan Peek — in the late ’60s while they were still teenagers in high school. They quickly gained notoriety and soon were one of the bands that defined the sound of the early 1970s. Peek left the band in 1977 and passed away in 2011. America has been Bunnell and Beckley for most of their 50-year history. A few songs into their 90-minute set, Gerry Beckly said, “We’re glad to be back in Rhode Island…we’re sorry it’s been a while since we’ve been here!” The show kicked off with one of their more popular hits, “Tin Man.” That was quickly followed by their 1982 hit, “You Can Do Magic.” The vocals were handed over to drummer Ryland Steen for “Don’t Cross The River.” Multi instrumentalist Steve Fekete added six-string banjo to the mix as well. He also showcased his talents on piano and acoustic guitar, but really demonstrated his playing prowess on electric guitar. Most of the concert consisted of the entire contents of History: America’s Greatest Hits with the exception of “Muskrat Love.” They played other selections from their early albums such as “Riverside” and “Here,” in addition to later album cuts like “The Border” and their #1 hit in Italy, “Survival” about which they commented, “Not so big here!” They mentioned that “Every year we like to dredge up a song from an obscure album to play at a show” and that song this time around was “Greenhouse” from the Hourglass album.

  • American Songwriter – Behind the Song: “Sister Golden Hair”
March 26, 2020 Link to article: https://americansongwriter.com/behind-the-song-sister-golden-hair/ Behind the Song: “Sister Golden Hair” by America Paul Zollo March 26, 2020 America’s Gerry Beckley on the origins of this classic song, and on making the record with the legendary Beatles team of George Martin and Geoff Emerick Because of the Coronavirus and social restrictions here in L.A. and elsewhere at this moment, all new interviews we’re conducting for American Songwriter are being done over the phone. We spoke to Gerry Beckley, who along with Dewey Bunell, separately wrote songs for their band America. Dewey wrote their first #1 hit, the cryptic classic “Horse With No Name” (the origins of which Dewey discusses with us in an upcoming piece). And Gerry wrote their second #1 hit, “Sister Golden Hair,” the main subject of our conversation on this day. Gerry spoke to us from his home in Venice – the California one – near the beach, on the dark morning of March 25, 2020. It was dark both physically and emotionally, because of this crisis, which has been exponentially expanding in many directions every day. The awful news had just come in the night before that Jackson Browne (an old friend of Gerry’s and one who figures into this story), had tested positive for the virus. What was already terrible and frightening had gotten worse, and now was way too close to home. So before getting to a discussion of the song and other musical topics, we spoke about Jackson, and also about how Gerry and his family had been coping with the crisis.
