One of the most recognizable names in history is the 14th head men’s basketball coach in Sun Devil history, as Vice President of Athletics Ray Anderson named 1992 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player Bobby Hurley as the new Sun Devil head coach on April 9, 2015. Hurley, an NCAA champion with Duke in 1991 and 1992, led Buffalo to a school record-matching 23 wins in 2014-15, its first Mid-American Conference title and a trip to the 2015 NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. The Bulls fell to West Virginia in the second round, snapping an eight-game win streak that was Buffalo’s longest in a decade. After going to Division I status in 1991-92, Buffalo averaged 12.9 wins in its 22 seasons prior to Hurley, but was 42-20 in his two years, which included playing 29 games on the road. He coached the MAC Players of the Year in back-to-back seasons and led Buffalo to its first outright MAC East Division title in 2013-14. Rashon Burno Assistant Coach

Rashon Burno, assistant coach at the University of Florida from 2012-15, joined the men’s basketball coaching staff in July of 2015. Burno, who held collegiate coaching positions at Towson State, College and the University of Nebraska – the latter post he accepted in May after Florida head coach was named head coach of the NBA’s – joined Levi Watkins and Brian Merritt on Bobby Hurley’s staff. “I am thrilled we were able to complete our staff with Rashon who not only is a great coach and recruiter but someone I am very familiar with,” said Hurley, who was named ASU’s head coach on April 9. “He was part of a Final Four trip at Florida and is extremely connected and respected in the coaching world. He has a great family and is a great addition to Sun Devil Basketball.” Burno’s ties to Hurley’s family go all the way back to his high school career as he helped anchor back-to-back national championships in 1996 and 1997 at St. Anthony’s High School (Jersey City, New Jersey,) under Hurley’s father, Hall of Fame coach Sr. Burno, who played during his college career at DePaul, worked with the Florida backcourt players, coaching three Gators to All-SEC honors (Kenny Boynton, and Scottie Wilbekin) in his tenure. Wilbekin became the first Gator guard to earn SEC Player of the Year in 2014. In Florida’s historic 2013-14 season, the Gators posted a 30-game winning streak that included the SEC’s first-ever 18-0 regular season, capped with the fourth SEC Tournament title in school history. LEVI WATKINS Assistant Coach

“Levi was very vocal, a leader from the first day as a freshman, and he was probably one of the hardest workers on the team. It was a family to him. Levi Watkins enters his first season as an assistant coach at Arizona State University, having spent the previous two years (2013-15) alongside head coach Bobby Hurley at the , where the Bulls went 42-20 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. At Buffalo, Watkins played a major role in all aspects of head coach Bobby Hurley’s program, including recruiting (serving as the Recruiting Coordinator in 2014-15), player development, scouting and game preparation, academics and community relations. Watkins helped guide the University at Buffalo to it first MAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth in addition to winning the MAC regular season title. Buffalo also tied the program’s highest win total (23) and finished with a program’s best RPI of 29. The Bulls won 10 road games in 2014-15, the most in school history. Buffalo closed out the season as the conference leader in scoring, scoring margin and assists. In his first year with Buffalo, Watkins helped lead the Bulls to their first outright MAC East title, leading the conference in both scoring margin and assists and ranking second in scoring. Watkins worked primarily with the post players at Buffalo and in both seasons a post player won the MAC Player of the Year honors. Forward , 2015 MAC Player of the Year and led the conference in scoring and rebounding, while forward Javon McCrea became Buffalo’s all-time leading scorer and led the MAC in both scoring and rebounding during the 2013-14 season while under Watkins’ direction.
