U I'~ FIVE persons of this name are to be ;-,1':t!f'£ 7fJ !,tu., found in the early history of New Eng- . land, who are suppose~ to have been brothers: John, George, Richard, Joseph and Robert Hull. John Hull was admitted freeman by the General Court of Mass~chusetts, August 7, 1632. He was Captain of an artillery company, and died at Newbury, February, 1670. George Hull, of Dorchester, was admitted freeman March 4, 1633. He was Representative to the General Court in 16.34, ' and afterwards removed to Conllecticu. t. Richard Hull was made freeman in April, 1634. He removed to N:ew Haven, Connecticut, in 163!}:* His son John was bap tized in 1640: and removed to Derby, which town he repres·ented in General Assembly. Afterwards removed to Wallingford, where he was known as Dr. John Hull, and owned a mile square of land. Two of his sons, John and Joseph, remained in Derby, and frorn Joseph descended General William Hull, and Commo dore Isaac Hull. Joseph Hull, of Hingham, was admitted freeman in 1635. He was Representative to General Court of Massachusetts in 1638 and 163 9. The town of Hull, formerly Nan task et, was named for this Joseph, according to Savage. Robert Hull, blacksrnith, ef Boston, was admitted freeman in 1637. He died July 28, 1666. His son John, or as Sewall's Diary says, grandson, was made freeman in 1649, and was a goldsmith, and a highly respected citizen of Boston. His chil dren all died young, except Hannah, who married Samuel Sewall, Chief Justice of the Province in 1676. John Hull became _,reasurer and l\.faster of the ~lint in 1652, and left a large estate * "Aug. 28, 1637. JOHN HULL, born 1640, in New Haven; married Mary Removed to Derby, which town he represented in General Assembly. Afterwards went to Wallingford, where he was known as Dr. John Hull, and was a large holder of land granted to him by the General .Assembly, probably for services rend.ered as Surgeon in King Philip's war, 1675-6. There is a deed extant to tr.; Joseph Hull, from his brothe1· John, dated January 8, 1753, fc, four acres of land in Derby, '' at a place called Quas Plain;" cor sidcration, 500 pounds. He was a farmer, and member of the General ~ssembly for many years. There is a deed extant from this Joseph to his son Joseph, dated August 30, 1732, giving him :, by way of portion," seventy-five acres· of land in Derby. CHILDREN, FIFTH GENERATION. I. SaRAH, b. He n1arried Eliza Clark, of Ly1ne Centre, in 1749. She is said to have been the daughter of William Clark, who was a descen dant of Thomas Olarke the Pilgrim, and had five other daughters and two sons.* Joseph Hull died in 1775. He entered the army in 1776 as Lieut. of Artillery, and was made prisoner at the capture of Fort Wa_shington; was exchanged in 1778. · In 1779, he commanded a flotilla in Long Island Sound. Waller, of Georgia. 42 IV. WILLI.AM. 43 27. ISAAC HULL, son of Joseph Hull 3d, of Derby, born 1752; married Martha Clark, removed to Canada about 1804. When the war of 1812 broke out, refusing to take the oath of allegiance to the British Crown, l1e was placed in confinement. In 1813, he removed to Maumee City, Ohio, and died in ~Iunroe, 1\Iichigan, in 1829, aged 77. His wife died in 1817, aged 64. CHILDREN, SEVENTH GE:NERATION. I. DAVID, b. 17'71 ; Capt. in U. S. Taught school, and after "Ktt'is studied law at Litchfi..eld, and was admitted to the bar in l 7 ~- Fi. In April of that· year he was chosen Captain of the :&rat ~ompn.ny raised in Derby, and marched with Col. Webb'a Begt. to ,.:il.mbridge, where ·he took part in the siege of Boston. He ,-:.·.1.~ a Major bi the 8th llassachusetts regiment in 1'1'1'1, Lieut. · a1: ■- 1 t:el in 17'79, alid Assistant Inspector of the army under .. Ja~=.,:1 ·Steuben.
