Attributed to Chien Lung bird perched amongst foliage. Contained within (Qianlong) period, 18th century. Provenance: a hardwood frame with applied scrollwork and the estate of Elsie Seabrook, Tunica, scroll legged feet and fully reticulated carved Mississippi, ex-H. Moog, Atlanta. Condition: balls. Condition: All items: Condition: Some slight bending to footed base, Excellent condition 400.00 - 600.00 overall very good condition. 300.00 - 400.00 12 Chinese Silver Lock Pendant 9 Chinese Silver Zeewo plate, Cherry Amber Box Antique Chinese silver lock pendant with Chinese silver Zeewo marked plate and cherry enameled peach and bat longevity symbols on amber carved box. 1st item - Chinese silver an enameled silver and hardstone beaded chain. marked circular plate, underside marked Signed on the upper part of the pendant. Silver "Zeewo" (Zeewo Company, Shanghai) and content of pendant tests between 80 - 90%. additional Chinese hallmarks. Bamboo design Other elements of the chain appear to be brass. rim with inner plate having a dimpled surface. Pendant measures 2" H x 2-5/8" W. 22-1/4" 7-5/16" diameter. Late 19th/Early 20th century. Note: When 6.2 oz troy. 2nd item - Chinese cherry amber a Chinese sons were born, they were sometimes carved box with dragon carving on top and floral gifted with decorative talismans shaped like lock foliate carving on sides. 3-1/8" length x made of materials such as jade or metal; boys 2-11/16" width x 1-1/2" height. Includes four made of the form of a Ju-i head, with incised decoration, carved jade: Two depict rat on fruit, one depicts a double strand of hardstone and jade beads and a seated Buddha, the other is in the form of a silver clasp. Pendant measures: 3" H x 3-1/2" Ju-i head symbol with bat decoration with a W. Total length: 20 3/4". Early 20th century. 10K gold-filled chain. Also included is a Condition: 1st item: Some minor chipping to carnelian disc with 10K gold vermeil frame edge of pendant. Overall very good condition. (tested) and Chinese symbols, and a marked 400.00 - 500.00 sterling cloisonne dragon brooch. All 20th century, ranging in size from 1-1/4" H to 2-1/4" L. The exhibition is in homage to American women of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the illustrators who accurately portrayed the quintessential yet distinctly American feminine beauty that these women embodied. The American illustrators highlighted include Charles Dana Gibson, Harrison Fisher, and others of the greatest illustrators of the period, such as: Philip Boileau, MacClelland Barclay, Howard Chandler Christy, James Montgomery Flagg, Henry Hutt, Walter Granville Smith, Paul Stahr, and Albert Beck Wenzell. Each of these illustrators created their own prototypical image of ‘The American Woman.’ The public gave these illustrators’ artworks generic names as part of their respective oeuvre; The Gibson Girl and The Fisher Girl stand out as the most popular of all. These renditions of the illustrators’ ideal woman captured the increasingly independent spirit of American women. The illustrations both shaped and reflected American society and its notions of female beauty. Compared to women of previous eras, these women relished more freedoms, enjoyed greater opportunities in sports and education, and were at the vanguard of a time when women effected change through social and political movements on an unprecedented scale in Western culture.     ARTIST SPOTLIGHT Édouard Manet DAN SCOTT The Bridge BetweenÉdouard Realism Manet and Impressionism Édouard Manet (1832-1883) was a French painter who bridged the gap between Real- ism and Impressionism. In this ebook, I take a closer look at his life and art. Édouard Manet, Boating, 1874 2 Key Fact Here are some of the key facts and ideas about the life and art of Manet: • Unlike many of his contemporaries, he was fortunate enough to be born into a wealthy family in Paris on 23 January 1832. His father was a high-ranking judge and his mother had strong political connections, being the daughter of a diplomat and goddaughter of Charles Bernadotte, a Swedish crown prince. • His father expected him to follow in his footsteps down a career in law. However, with encouragement from his uncle, he was more interested in a career as a paint- er. His uncle would take him to the Louvre on numerous occasions to be inspired by the master paintings. • Before committing himself to the arts, he tried to join the Navy but failed his entry examination twice. Only then did his father give his reluctant acceptance for him to become an artist. • He trained under a skilled teacher and painter named Thomas Couture from 1850 to 1856. Below is one of Couture’s paintings, which is similar to the early work of Manet. I always find it interesting to see how much a teacher’s work can influence the work of their students. That is why you need to be selective with who you learn from.
