Truck Driving Championships Results Kansas Motor Carriers Association Affiliated with The American Trucking Associations DISPATCH June 2013 Hours Of Service Changes Begins July 1: Are you prepared? inside Truck Driving On July 1, 2013, the last two parts of the hours of service regulations begin. The new rules prohibit a driver from being on-duty for more than 8 hours without a 30 Championships Results minute break. WHG Golf Classic The new rules require that if more than 8 hours of on-duty time have passed Results since the last off-duty or sleeper berth period of at least 30 minutes, a driver must take a break of at least 30 minutes before driving. After the break, they can drive for 3 more hours, bringing the total driving time to 11 hours. The biggest point is you don’t have to wait 8 hours before taking a break. Much More! A break is considered “off duty” time. A driver does not need to spend the time resting. Meal breaks or any other “off duty” time of 30 minutes will count as a break. The definition of “off duty” changed when the first round of the regulations came into effect. A driver can now log “off duty” while remaining in a commercial motor vehicle. However, this change does not alter the existing requirement to log time “on duty” when the driver has vehicle responsibility such as loading or unloading. In explaining the final rules, the FMCSA stated, “Unless a driver is released from all responsibility for the vehicle while waiting to be loaded or unloaded, time spent waiting is still considered on duty time.” All KMCA forms are available on our website: The regulations slightly retain the 34 hour restart. There are several significant www.kmca.org limitations that need to be met to get credit for the restart. It can only be used once per week. This is not a calendar week, but refers to the 168 hours that comprise a week (7 days times 24 hours). The 168 hours must pass from the time the driver begins his 34 hours off until the next time he can begin his next 34 hours off for the restart to count. UPS is selling UPS Freight to TFI International, Canada’s largest trucking provider, in a step that will reshape the North American less-than-truckload (LTL) market. TFI, which offers LTL, truckload, and courier services in Canada, will now own the sixth-largest US LTL trucking company. The $800 million sale comes with a five-year service agreement that will ensure UPS Freight will continue to use UPS’s network to fulfill package shipments, UPS said in a statement Monday. That will avoid disruption for shippers that use bundled UPS package and freight services. As it takes on what will be its largest subsidiary in the United States, TFI is expected to try to make its new LTL subsidiary more profitable and more competitive, which could put more pressure on already-climbing LTL rates in 2021. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter. Satish Jindel, president of transportation research firm SJ Consulting Group, said the sale would be beneficial for both UPS and good the US LTL market as a whole. For TFI, the sale vastly expands its US presence, something the company has been building through acquisitions for more than a decade.

    SMART Mobility Multi-Modal Freight Capstone Report July 2020 (This Page Intentionally Left Blank) MULTIMODAL FREIGHT Foreword The U.S. Department of Energy’s Systems and Modeling for Accelerated Research in Transportation (SMART) Mobility Consortium is a multiyear, multi-laboratory collaborative, managed by the Energy Efficient Mobility Systems Program of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Vehicle Technologies Office, dedicated to further understanding the energy implications and opportunities of advanced mobility technologies and services. The first three-year research phase of SMART Mobility occurred from 2017 through 2019, and included five research pillars: Connected and Automated Vehicles, Mobility Decision Science, Multi-Modal Freight, Urban Science, and Advanced Fueling Infrastructure. A sixth research thrust integrated aspects of all five pillars to develop a SMART Mobility Modeling Workflow to evaluate new transportation technologies and services at scale. This report summarizes the work of the Multi-Modal Freight Pillar. The Multi Modal Freight Pillar’s objective is to assess the effectiveness of emerging freight movement technologies and understand the impacts of the growing trends in consumer spending and e-commerce on parcel movement considering mobility, energy, and productivity.     Amazon Contracted LTL Carrier PRO Distribution Guide Published 5/1/2014 Overview: This document explains the process Shippers should follow to request a block of Progressive Rotating Order (PRO) numbers from each of Amazon’s Contracted LTL Carriers. If you are currently shipping or plan to ship with one or more of Amazon’s Contracted LTL Carriers, please follow the guidelines below to request and use PRO numbers from each of these Carriers. It is not required to get a block of PROs but it is strongly encouraged since a carrier PRO is required on ALL Advance Shipment Notifications (ASNs) and compliance is enforced with chargebacks. Amazon Contracted LTL Carriers Include: ABF Freight, Averitt Express, Central Freight Lines, Con-way Freight, Dayton Freight, Estes Express, New England Motor Freight, UPS Freight It is important to know… • BOTH Prepaid and Collect Shippers can request a block of PROs from these Carriers. By requesting and using a block of PROs from these Carriers, Shippers must ship with the carrier whose PRO you are using. • Prepaid Shippers (Shipper pays transportation cost) are not limited to shipping with one of these contracted Carriers ; it is strongly advised that Shippers request a block of PROs from the Carrier of their choosing. • These PRO numbers can be used for Amazon and Non-Amazon shipments ; use is not limited to Amazon shipments and can be used at any time while shipping with these Carriers. • Collect Shippers (Amazon paid transportation shipments), it is required that you submit a Routing Request prior to shipping and ship with the assigned Carrier.
