Dialogue with a -winning Economist Myron Scholes

CFA Society Beijing is honored to host winner of the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, Prof. Myron Scholes at Peking University to discuss global economic developments and other topics, and have a dialogue with the audience on various issues of interest, including for example the Black-Scholes options pricing model, the European situation, etc.

Myron Scholes

Nobel Laureate Frank E. Buck Professor Emeritus of Finance and Law Graduate School of Business Director and Trustee Dimensional US Mutual Funds

As Frank E. Buck Professor Emeritus of Finance at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, Myron S. Scholes is widely known for his seminal work in options pricing, capital markets, tax policy, and the financial services industry. He is co-originator of the Black-Scholes options pricing model, which is the basis of the pricing and risk-management technology that is used to value and manage the risk of financial instruments around the world. For this work, he received the Alfred Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1997. An expert in finance and tax law, Professor Scholes is chairman of Oak Hill Platinum Partners and a managing partner in the private and public investment groups of the Robert M. Bass organization. Oak Hill Platinum Partners, a , specializes in providing inventory services in G7 fixed-interest markets to the global banking and dealer communities. He received a Ph.D. from the , where he went on to serve as the Edward Eagle Brown Professor of Finance, and has also taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management.

Peng Chen

Chief Executive Officer, Asia ex-Japan Chairman, Dimensional Smartnest Dimensional Fund Advisors

Peng Chen joined Dimensional in 2012 as chief executive officer of Asia (ex-Japan). In addition to his role as CEO, Peng is a member of Dimensional’s Investment Policy Committee. Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Peng served as president of Morningstar’s global investment management division, which consists of Morningstar’s investment consulting, retirement advice, and investment management operations in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Dr. Peng is an editorial board member of the Financial Analysts Journal. He was also named to the Investment Advisor list of the ―25 Most Influential Individuals‖ in 2008 and won the Financial Analysts Journal’s prestigious Graham and Dodd Scroll Award three times—in 2011, 2007, and 2003. He also won the Retirement Income Industry Association’s 2012 Academic Thought Leadership Award. Dr. Peng holds a PhD and master’s degree in consumer economics from Ohio State University. He grew up in Harbin, China, and holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the Harbin Institute of Technology in China.
