Since its inception in 1993, the BCRF has given out more than $30 million in grants to support clinical research at some of the country's most advanced breast cancer medical facilities. Monies raised through the online campaign benefit the BCRF, as well as the ongoing relief efforts of the Twin Towers Fund and The American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. "By turning the Yahoo! home page pink, communicating to our worldwide audience, and harnessing Yahoo!'s global network of services, we can reach millions of people around the world and encourage the global community to unite in this effort," said Jasmine Kim, vice president, international marketing, Yahoo!. "Together, we can make a difference in the quest to eradicate this devastating disease from the lives of women and families everywhere, and ultimately find a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime." Myra J. Biblowit, president of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation commented, "Together as a nation we fight scores of battles, everyday. At The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, we continue our quest for a cure as this is an ongoing battle that takes a lifetime commitment. In this year alone, more 40,000 women will die from this terrible disease. The Foundation is steadfast in its mission to fund the research that will save the lives of our mothers, our daughters and our friends. Without the support of great companies like Yahoo! and Estee Lauder, we would not have the ability to regenerate the much-needed resources year-after-year that will bring us closer to this universal goal." It also donates a portion of the proceeds from special products sales to breast cancer research, which this year will share the funds collected from U.S. counter sales and internal corporate activities with the Twin Towers Fund, which has been established by the City of New York to assist the families of police officers, fire fighters and rescue workers, and the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. About the BCRF The Breast Cancer Research Foundation was founded by Evelyn H. Lauder of the Estee Lauder Companies, Inc. in 1993. Since then, the Foundation has carved a niche as the first and largest not-for-profit organization dedicated solely to funding clinical and genetic research in breast cancer. We rely on nationally recognized experts to advise us on where our grants will make the greatest impact, keeping the Foundation in a key position to recognize today's most promising initiatives. As a result, our efforts have grown to support young and seasoned investigators alike, pursuing answers in topics ranging from the clinical and genetic aspects of the disease to investigations in nutrition, the incidence in young women and in African American women, vaccines, and the psychosocial impact of treatment on women of all ages. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation guarantees that a minimum of 85 percent of all funds raised goes directly to research.
