JULY 2019 10, Wednesday Edinburgh Welcome to Scotland! Arrive at the Principal Hotel George Street before 1 p.m. to get acquainted with Edinburgh! Panoramic sightseeing of the beautiful city will introduce notable landmarks including and Edinburgh Castle sitting high on Castle Rock. Next, continue to the Mound and then on to the , which has a marble  statue of Sir as its base. Towering above is a 200-foot Gothic spire adorned by statuettes of characters from Sir Walter Scott’s novels and poems. By 6 p.m. all Montreat guests will arrive at the hotel where we gather for a Welcome Reception. At dinner, enjoy getting to know one another and discussion of the adventures that lie ahead! (D)

11, Thursday Edinburgh Following breakfast at the hotel, a busy day of sightseeing is ahead! First, we visit the , where Mary, Queen of Scots lived. Then we explore the , the succession of streets that form the main thoroughfare of the Old Town. Tour the 15th-century  home of John Knox, leader of the Scottish Reformation and founder of the Presbyterian Church. At a group lunch, we have the pleasure of a lecture on the Reformation from President Maurer. Then on to St. Giles Cathedral, where John Knox preached his fiery reformation sermons; the prestigious  Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh Edinburgh University; and Greyfriars. If  Walter Scott Monument, time permits, we pay a visit to Rosslyn Edinburgh Chapel.
