Welcome Pastor Dan Limkeman

Congregational Song LEAD ME TO THE CROSS Saviour, I come, quiet my soul. Remember redemption's hill, Where Your blood was spilled, For my ransom. Ev’rything I once held dear, I count it all as loss. Lead me to the cross, Where Your love poured out, Bring me to my knees, Lord, I lay me down. Rid me of myself, I belong to You. Oh, lead me, lead me to the cross. You were as I, tempted and tried, human. The word became flesh, Bore my sin and death. Now You're risen. To Your heart, to Your heart, Lead me to Your heart, Lead me to Your heart.

Responsive Reading Isaiah 53:1-6 Leader: Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. People: He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him. Leader: He was despised and rejected by others, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces He was despised, and we held Him in low esteem.

People: Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered Him punished by God, stricken by Him, and afflicted.

Leader: But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.

People: We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

WHAT WONDROUS LOVE IS THIS

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul, What wondrous love is this, O my soul! What wondrous love is this That caused the Lord of bliss To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul, To bear the dreadful curse for my soul! When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down, When I was sinking down, sinking down; When I was sinking down Beneath God's righteous frown, Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul, Christ laid aside His crown for my soul!

The First Word Luke 23:33-34 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified Him there, along with the criminals—one on His right, the other on His left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up His clothes by casting lots.

THE WONDER OF THE CROSS

O precious sight, my Savior stands dying for me with outstretched hands. O precious sight, I love to gaze, Remembering salvation’s day. Though my eyes linger on this scene, May passing time and years Not steal the power with which it impacts me, The freshness of its mystery. May I never lose the wonder, the wonder of the cross. May I see it like the first time, standing as a sinner lost. Undone by mercy and left speechless, watching wide-eyed at the cost, May I never lose the wonder, the wonder of the cross. Behold the God-man crucified, the perfect sinless sacrifice, As blood ran down those nails and wood, And history was split in two, yes, history was split in two.

The Second Word Luke 23:39-43 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at Him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Congregational Song GRACE Your grace that leads this sinner home, From death to life forever, And sings the song of righteousness, By blood and not by merit. Your grace that reaches far and wide To every tribe and nation, Has called my heart to enter in The joy of Your salvation. By grace I am redeemed, By grace I am restored, And now I freely walk Into the arms of Christ, my Lord. Your grace that I cannot explain, Not by my earthly wisdom, The Prince of life, without a stain, Was traded for this sinner. Let praise rise up and overflow, My song resound forever; For grace will see me welcomed home To walk beside my Saviour. The Third Word John 19:25-27 Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother, His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw His mother there, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

Meditation

Congregational Hymn WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDROUS CROSS When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ, my God; All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. See, from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down; Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small: Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all.

The Fourth Word Mark 15:33-34 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).

Vocal Trio Blessed Redeemer arr. D. Galbraith/D. Semsen Denise King, Jill Pearson, Karmen Saski Up Calvry's mountain one dreadful morn, Walked Christ my Savior, weary and worn; Facing for sinners death on a cross, That He might save them from endless loss. Blessed Redeemer, Precious Redeemer, Seems now I see Him on Calvary's tree. Wounded and bleeding, for sinners pleading, Blind and unheeding, dying for me. “Father, forgive them,” my Savior prayed, Ev'n while His lifeblood flowed fast away; Praying for sinners while in such woe, No one but Jesus ever loved so. Oh, how I love Him, Savior and Friend, How can my praises ever find end? Through years unnumbered on Heaven's shore, My song shall praise Him forevermore.

The Fifth Word John 19:28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”

Meditation

Congregational Hymn

HOW DEEP THE FATHER’S LOVE FOR US How deep the Father’s love for us, How vast beyond all measure. That He should give His only Son To make a wretch his treasure. How great the pain of searing loss. The Father turns His face away. As wounds which mar the Chosen One Bring many sons to glory. Behold the Man upon a cross, My sin upon His shoulders. Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice Call out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished; His dying breath has brought me life. I know that it is finished.

9

I will not boast in anything: No gifts, no pow’r, no wisdom. But I will boast in Jesus Christ: His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer. But this I know with all my heart: His wounds have paid my ransom. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer. But this I know with all my heart: His wounds have paid my ransom.

The Sixth Word John 19:29-30 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. When He had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

Congregational Song

MERCY I will kneel in the dust at the foot of the cross, Where mercy paid for me. Where the wrath I deserve, it is gone, it has passed. Your blood has hidden me. Mercy, mercy as endless as the sea. I'll sing Your hallelujah for all eternity. We will lift up the cup and the bread we will break, Remembering Your love. We were fallen from grace, but You took all our shame And nailed it to a cross. May I never lose the wonder, O the wonder of Your mercy. May I sing Your hallelujah, hallelujah, Amen. I will kneel in the dust at the foot of the cross, Where mercy paid for me.

Songs of Thanksgiving and Devotion

AT THE CROSS (Love Ran Red) There's a place Where mercy reigns and never dies. There's a place Where streams of grace flow deep and wide; Where all the love I've ever found Comes like a flood, comes flowing down. At the cross, at the cross, I surrender my life. I'm in awe of You; I'm in awe of You. Where Your love ran red, and my sin washed white; I owe all to You, I owe all to You, Jesus.

13

There's a place Where sin and shame are powerless. Where my heart Has peace with God and forgiveness. Where all the love I've ever found Comes like a flood, comes flowing down. Here my hope is found; Here on holy ground. Here I bow down, here I bow down. Here arms open wide; Here You saved my life. Here I bow down, here I bow. HALLELUJAH, WHAT A SAVIOR Man of sorrows, what a name For the Son of God Who came Ruined sinners to reclaim, Hallelujah, what a Savior; Bearing shame and scoffing rude, In my place condemned He stood; Sealed my pardon with His Blood, Hallelujah, what a Savior. Hallelujah, hallelujah, Hallelujah, what a Savior; Hallelujah, hallelujah, Hallelujah, what a Savior. Guilty, vile and helpless we, Spotless Lamb of God was He; Full atonement, can it be, Hallelujah, what a Savior; Lifted up was He to die,

14

“It is finished!” was His cry; Now in Heav'n exalted high, Hallelujah, what a Savior.
