Koerts Beneath the Cross of Jesus – arr. J. Koerts At the Cross - arr. R. Kingsmore How Deep the Father’s Love/What Wondrous Love Is This - arr. L. Larson At the Cross (Love Ran Red) – arr. L. Shackley Lamb of God - arr. M. Ijames Just As I Am - arr. R. Kingsmore Welcome Pastor Dan Limkeman Congregational Song LEAD ME TO THE CROSS Saviour, I come, quiet my soul. Remember redemption's hill, Where Your blood was spilled, For my ransom. Ev’rything I once held dear, I count it all as loss. Lead me to the cross, Where Your love poured out, Bring me to my knees, Lord, I lay me down. Rid me of myself, I belong to You. Oh, lead me, lead me to the cross. You were as I, tempted and tried, human. The word became flesh, Bore my sin and death. Now You're risen. To Your heart, to Your heart, Lead me to Your heart, Lead me to Your heart. Words and music by Brooke Fraser. ©2006 Hillsong Publishing. CCLI # 133392. Prayer Pastor Dan Werthman 2 Responsive Reading Isaiah 53:1-6 Leader: Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. People: He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him. Leader: He was despised and rejected by others, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces He was despised, and we held Him in low esteem. People: Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered Him punished by God, stricken by Him, and afflicted. Leader: But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed. People: We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. 3 Congregational Hymn WHAT WONDROUS LOVE IS THIS What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul, What wondrous love is this, O my soul! What wondrous love is this That caused the Lord of bliss To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul, To bear the dreadful curse for my soul! When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down, When I was sinking down, sinking down; When I was sinking down Beneath God's righteous frown, Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul, Christ laid aside His crown for my soul! American Folk Hymn. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up His clothes by casting lots. Meditation Congregational Song THE WONDER OF THE CROSS O precious sight, my Savior stands dying for me with outstretched hands. O precious sight, I love to gaze, Remembering salvation’s day. Though my eyes linger on this scene, May passing time and years Not steal the power with which it impacts me, The freshness of its mystery. May I never lose the wonder, the wonder of the cross. May I see it like the first time, standing as a sinner lost. Undone by mercy and left speechless, watching wide-eyed at the cost, May I never lose the wonder, the wonder of the cross. Behold the God-man crucified, the perfect sinless sacrifice, As blood ran down those nails and wood, And history was split in two, yes, history was split in two. Save yourself and us!” But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Meditation Congregational Song GRACE Your grace that leads this sinner home, From death to life forever, And sings the song of righteousness, By blood and not by merit. Your grace that reaches far and wide To every tribe and nation, Has called my heart to enter in The joy of Your salvation. By grace I am redeemed, By grace I am restored, And now I freely walk Into the arms of Christ, my Lord. Your grace that I cannot explain, Not by my earthly wisdom, The Prince of life, without a stain, Was traded for this sinner. Let praise rise up and overflow, My song resound forever; For grace will see me welcomed home To walk beside my Saviour. Words and music by Niki Shepherd, Jonny Robinson, and Rich Thompson. ©2016 CityAlight Music. CCLI # 133392. 6 The Third Word John 19:25-27 Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother, His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw His mother there, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. Meditation Congregational Hymn WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDROUS CROSS When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ, my God; All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. See, from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down; Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small: Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all. Words by Isaac Watts. And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”). Meditation Vocal Trio Blessed Redeemer arr. D. Galbraith/D. Semsen Denise King, Jill Pearson, Karmen Saski Up Calvry's mountain one dreadful morn, Walked Christ my Savior, weary and worn; Facing for sinners death on a cross, That He might save them from endless loss. Blessed Redeemer, Precious Redeemer, Seems now I see Him on Calvary's tree. Wounded and bleeding, for sinners pleading, Blind and unheeding, dying for me. “Father, forgive them,” my Savior prayed, Ev'n while His lifeblood flowed fast away; Praying for sinners while in such woe, No one but Jesus ever loved so. Oh, how I love Him, Savior and Friend, How can my praises ever find end? Through years unnumbered on Heaven's shore, My song shall praise Him forevermore. That He should give His only Son To make a wretch his treasure. How great the pain of searing loss. The Father turns His face away. As wounds which mar the Chosen One Bring many sons to glory. Behold the Man upon a cross, My sin upon His shoulders. Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice Call out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished; His dying breath has brought me life. I know that it is finished. 9 I will not boast in anything: No gifts, no pow’r, no wisdom. But I will boast in Jesus Christ: His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer. But this I know with all my heart: His wounds have paid my ransom. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer. But this I know with all my heart: His wounds have paid my ransom. Words and music by Stuart Townend.. © 1995 Kingsway’s Thankyou Music.
