Comment m’imaginer diriger tant d’opéras, italiens et français, comment imaginer Les Talens à l’opéra de Sydney, de Versailles ou de Drottningholm, comment aurais-je pu me voir diriger du Berlioz, du Verdi, du Gounod ? Ma grande satisfaction est d’avoir tenu ma ligne entre la France et l’Italie, d’avoir pu éviter l’effet pour l’effet, d’avoir pris des risques avec les trompettistes mais aussi les cornistes et autres aventuriers du baroque pour retrouver les techniques et les sonorités « justes ». Je ne rougis d’aucune eau dans le vin que je respecte trop pour l’édulcorer. Cette saison marquera aussi nos 15 ans d’actions pédagogiques dans les écoles et les collèges. Aujourd’hui, les partenariats se transforment et se multiplient, de nou- veaux projets se développent dans ce souci de transmis- sion qui m’est si cher. Bien sûr, tous ces accomplissements ne seraient pos- sibles sans l’aide de nos partenaires qui nous soutiennent fidèlement depuis de nombreuses années. Sans eux, Les Talens Lyriques n’auraient pu mener à bien tous ces beaux projets. Qu’ils en soient ici très chaleureusement remerciés. Et merci à vous cher public pour votre présence pas- sionnée à nos côtés depuis toutes ces années. Vous me manquez, et j’ai hâte de vous retrouver ! Et maintenant : que la fête commence ! Cette saison justement rassemble ce qui est le cœur de notre vocation : 3 beaucoup d’opéras, surtout méconnus ; de la musique de chambre (car le claveciniste que je suis tient à rester aussi chambriste) ; des récitals de jeunes chanteurs (car découvrir de nouveaux talents est aussi notre marque de fabrique) ; et des incursions dans le romantisme.

London in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries was the largest center of Italian operatic performance outside of Italy. All performances sung at the King’s Theatre, London, were sung in Italian, the presumed language of opera, even when the works had been originated in other languages. This created the need for a culture of translation and adaptation of works from abroad, making them suitable for a London audience partially through the retention of foreignness and partially through domesticating practices. In the 1790s, a period of political tension between Britain and post-Revolution France, four French operas were presented at the King's Theatre in Italian translations attributed to the poet Lorenzo Da Ponte (1749-1838): Gluck's Iphig�nie en Tauride, Gr�try's Z�mire et Azor, Monsigny's La belle Ars�ne, and Sacchini's Arvire et �v�lina.

    Giorgio Sanguinetti A Partimento in Classical Sonata Form by Giacomo Tritto Giacomo Tritto (*Altamura 1733; †Naples 1824) was a prolific, albeit not tremendously successful, opera composer. In his remarkably long life, he wrote more than fifty operas, mostly comic operas – a lesser genre in late eighteenth-century Naples. Today, his ope- ratic output is remembered mainly because of Il convitato di pietra,acomicoperastaged at the Teatro de’ Fiorentini in Naples in 1783, five years earlier than Mozart’s Don Gio- vanni.1 Tritto’s opera, on a libretto by Giovanbattista Lorenzi, is a fine example of the comic side of the Don Giovanni myth and has been recently restaged at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa in the season 2015/16. Tritto was also one of the most influential Neapolitan teachers of his age. When the twosurvivingconservatoriesoftheoriginalfour,Sant’OnofrioandthePietàdeiTurchini, merged in 1806 into a new Collegio di Musica, instead of a single director, Giuseppe Bonaparte chose Tritto along with Fedele Fenaroli and Giovanni Paisiello to form the so-called Triumvirato – a board of governors – that lasted until 1813, when Niccolò Zingarelli became the sole governor. Tritto achieved the highest honour through all the stages of his long career. He entered the Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini in 1746, where he was a student of Pasquale Cafaro and Nicola Sala.2 In 1759 he became “maestrino” (teaching assistant) of Cafaro and in 1785 “secondo maestro straordinario” in the same Conservatorio, where in 1799 he became full professor of counterpoint and composition.3 1 The position of Tritto’s opera as a precursor of Mozart’s Don Giovanni has attracted a consider- able size of musicological attention.

    Stanislav Tuksar University of Zagreb The Presence of Italian Music in the Croatian Lands in the 1600–1800 Period — A General Survey Introduction This paper will offer a survey of relevant data concerning the presence of Italian music in the Croatian historical lands during the 1600–1800 period. In this, two differentia- tions will be effectuated. Firstly, the notion of the Croatian historical lands with the physical and socio-cultural reality it denotes encompasses territories of the continental Central-European provinces of Slavonia and Croatia proper, and the coastal Mediter- ranean provinces of Dalmatia and Istria, as well as the territory of the ancient Republic of Dubrovnik, all three stretching along the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea. Their individual historical courses during the periods of the Baroque and Classicism (1600– 1800) offer at least three various models of exposure to the influence of Italian music (including cultural transfer and modes of reception): 1) the model of prevalently Vene- tian, but also central and southern Italian influence (in Istria and Dalmatia), called the subordination model; 2) the model of mixed Italian and Central-European influence (in the Republic and City of Dubrovnik), called the rivalry model; and, 3) the model of minor Italian influence (in Slavonia and Croatia proper), called the free market model. Accordingly, the notion of „Italian music“ will be individualised to a certain extent into Venetian music and music originating from other Italian regions of the Peninsula (e. g. Puglia, Naples, etc.).
