En esta fecha entrego a la Secretaría General, el ejemplar respectivo y sus anexos en formato impreso y digital o electrónico. 22 de junio de 2020 Firma: ________________________ 4 5 Resumen Esta tesis indaga sobre las lógicas, concepciones, sentidos, prácticas y saberes de la Naturaleza evidenciados en la zona de Íntag, Ecuador, en el marco de la relación ser humano-Naturaleza. A lo largo de esta tesis se dibujan las posturas y planteamientos en palabras de las y los inteños, entretejiendo las nociones del ser-saber-hacer desde y con la Naturaleza, el ‘cuidado’ de ella, la interrelación y coexistencia de seres, y las tensiones entre diferentes actores/poderes (internos, externos, históricos y actuales). Íntag, ubicada en el área rural y montañosa en el noroeste de los Andes, es una de las zonas de bosques nublados más importantes que tiene Ecuador en términos de riqueza biológica, es el eje de un conflicto socioambiental de extractivismo, y está marcada por una heterogeneidad de voces-actores en la zona. El encuentro entre diferentes concepciones de la Naturaleza, en particular, las del sistema-mundo moderno frente a las nociones o lógicas distintas locales es la base de muchos cuestionamientos y tensiones socioambientales en Íntag. Este trabajo emana de y se funda en las narraciones y reflexiones inteñas; a partir de ellas, se aborda la necesidad de decolonizar las lógicas epistemológicas de nociones, saberes y prácticas respecto a la Naturaleza desde las experiencias y pensamientos locales. La problematización subyacente, que se referencia mediante el desarrollo de esta tesis, se basa en la concepción de la Naturaleza propia del patrón moderno-capitalista- colonial hegemónico, donde hay una separación entre seres humanos y Naturaleza junto a la afirmación de superioridad de los humanos respecto a la Naturaleza. Esta división binaria jerárquica es el origen de las tensiones socioambientales evidenciadas. Los hallazgos, asentados en las narraciones de las y los inteños, evidencian que la Naturaleza se concibe relacionalmente, es sentipensada y propia del lugar, que se valora el cuidado de ella, el ser-saber-hacer con y desde la Naturaleza, y que la Naturaleza ‘es vida’. Se revela además que las y los inteños vienen formulando relaciones, cuestionamientos y posturas particulares o nuevas frente a los discursos y prácticas hegemónicos en torno a la Naturaleza y vida, lo que permite una teorización que aporta al diálogo epistémico sobre la crisis ambiental en el marco de la crisis civilizatoria. Tedford3 The skeletal remains of a small bear (Protarctos abstrusus) were collected at the Beaver Pond fossil site in the High Arctic (Ellesmere I., Nunavut). This mid-Pliocene deposit has also yielded 12 other mammals and the remains of a boreal-forest community. Phylogenetic analysis reveals this bear to be basal to modern bears. It appears to represent an immigration event from Asia, leaving no living North American descendants. The dentition shows only modest specialization for herbivory, consistent with its basal position within Ursinae. However, the appearance of dental caries suggest a diet high in fermentable- carbohydrates. Fossil plants remains, including diverse berries, suggests that, like modern northern black bears, P. abstrusus may have exploited a high-sugar diet in the fall to promote fat accumulation and facilitate hibernation. A tendency toward a sugar-rich diet appears to have arisen early in Ursinae, and may have played a role in allowing ursine lineages to occupy cold habitats. In 1970, Philip Bjork described a small fossil bear from the Pliocene Glenn’s Ferry Formation of southwestern Idaho. Based on a single m1 as the holotype, he was understandably perplexed and named it Ursus abstrusus. Additional material has not been forthcoming since its initial description and this bear has remained an enigma.

The dentition shows only modest specialization for herbivory, consistent with its basal position within Ursinae. However, the appearance of dental caries suggest a diet high in fermentable- carbohydrates. Fossil plants remains, including diverse berries, suggests that, like modern northern black bears, P. abstrusus may have exploited a high-sugar diet in the fall to promote fat accumulation and facilitate hibernation.

The family is notable for having some of the most important pollinators of managed crops, yet also comprises a rich diversity of social and parasitic lifestyles, host plant affinities, and ecosystem services. Despite its importance, relationships among the tribes within Apidae remain unclear. To date, rigorous phylogenetic analysis has been challenged by long-standing assumptions about the relatedness of cleptoparasitic groups in relation to their hosts. I performed the first large-scale phylogenetic study of the family Apidae based on DNA sequence data, including representative taxa from all 33 apid tribes. I then used this phylogeny to investigate the origins and antiquity of cleptoparasitism and sociality. Results indicate that most cleptoparasitic apid bees form a monophyletic group, and therefore stem from a single origin of cleptoparasitism (with two more origins in the Euglossini orchid bees and one in the tribe Ctenoplectrini). Divergence time analysis using a relaxed fossil- calibrated molecular clock model reveals that cleptoparasitism is an ancient behavior in apid bees that first evolved ~100 Ma.
