INDEPENDENT PUBLISHERS GROUP A Matter of Inches How I Survived in the Crease and Beyond Clint Malarchuk, Dan Robson Summary No job in the world of sports is as intimidating, exhilarating, and stressridden as that of a hockey goaltender. Clint Malarchuk did that job while suffering high anxiety, depression, and obsessive compulsive disorder and had his career nearly literally cut short by a skate across his neck, to date the most gruesome injury hockey has ever seen. This autobiography takes readers deep into the troubled mind of Clint Malarchuk, the former NHL goaltender for the Quebec Nordiques, the Washington Capitals, and the Buffalo Sabres. When his carotid artery was slashed during a collision in the crease, Malarchuk nearly died on the ice. • Sheffield Steelers 2020
Sheffield Steelers vs Belfast Giants - Ice Hockey Match Sunday 23rd February 2020 Dear Parents/Guardians, Sheffield Steelers have invited our group to support them as they take on the Belfast Giants at Sheffield Arena on Sunday 23rd February. The ice hockey event is from 16:00 and is expected to be done by 19:00. This is a family event, therefore meaning it is open not only to the young people and adult volunteers, but families and friends too. Entrance with the group will be free for all young people and siblings aged under 18. Adult volunteers (registered with the group) are also free of charge. Parents and other adults can attend at a discounted rate of £10 per person. (Payable in advance – details below). Please note: Any young people attending will need a responsible adult present at the event. We will not have enough adult volunteers to cover the necessary scouting ratios of adults to young people. This doesn’t mean 1:1 child to adult; simply that the group will not be taking responsibility for the young people attending. Places are considered firm after selecting “yes” to the Online Scout Manager invitation. This is particularly important given adult places have to be paid for in advance - even if your adult places drop out, the monies are still due. If you have more than one young person in the group, you will have received this email several times given it has been sent by youth section. Please only respond to one of the invitations given that you can indicate your party size after you’ve followed the invitation link.

  • Lancashire: a Chronology of Flash Flooding
LANCASHIRE: A CHRONOLOGY OF FLASH FLOODING Introduction The past focus on the history of flooding has been mainly with respect to flooding from the overflow of rivers and with respect to the peak level that these floods have achieved. The Chronology of British Hydrological Events provides a reasonably comprehensive record of such events throughout Great Britain. Over the last 60 years the river gauging network provides a detailed record of the occurrence of river flows and peak levels and flows are summaried in HiflowsUK. However there has been recent recognition that much flooding of property occurs from surface water flooding, often far from rivers. Locally intense rainfall causes severe flooding of property and land as water concentrates and finds pathways along roads and depressions in the landscape. In addition, intense rainfall can also cause rapid rise in level and discharge in rivers causing a danger to the public even though the associated peak level is not critical. In extreme cases rapid rise in river level may be manifested as a ‘wall of water’ with near instantaneous rise in level of a metre or more. Such events are usually convective and may be accompanied by destructive hail or cause severe erosion of hillsides and agricultural land. There have been no previous compilations of historical records of such ‘flash floods’or even of more recent occurrences. It is therefore difficult to judge whether a recent event is unusual or even unique in terms of the level reached at a particular location or more broadly of regional severity. This chronology of flash floods is provided in order to enable comparisons to be made between recent and historical floods, to judge rarity and from a practical point of view to assess the adequacy of urban drainage networks.
