THE CENTENARY OF Welcome to the second RAF Magazine and thanks for all the nice comments about our first selection.

For this edition we have looked carefully at our own stock and can offer THE ROYAL everything from some very rare single signed items, through to some unique collections. Bill Randle had some amazing people sign for him, just a few of which are featured here and then of course people take his covers and AIR FORCE collect other signatures, so you really never know what you will find.

May 2018 If you are tempted by one of the rare signed items remember you can always Issue 2 use flexi-pay to help spread the cost.

Air Display

Two Albums we think either 99 or 100 Air Display covers with a 50/50 split of flown and signed covers from this popular series, you get all the covers you would expect, but there are a few very nice ‘special’ multi-signed covers and a number of articles and photographs.

Eight Albums containing over 250 World War II Anniversary covers, consisting of the History of and Benham 60th Anniversary series, but mainly special signed versions of the JS50 RAF series. Over 160 of the covers are signed and most are the special signed with many both Official and unofficial varieties, I even saw one of the Great Escape covers signed by James Garner and Sir Richard Attenborough. One of the largest lots of these we have had and unrepeatable.

RAB05 £1750 £250 per month over 7 months

Medal Covers

The medal covers were produced jointly with Benham and the RAF, both as printed versions and with reproduction medals put inside. This collection of seven albums includes 80 covers all with the actual repro medals inside produced between 1999 and 2009 of these 55 are the hard to find Official First Day Covers.

D-Day BomberBomber Seven albums with over 150 Bomber covers issued between 1982 and 2003. Of these 100 are signed, some the standard ones from the Bomber Collection, but a number were signed later giving you some very nice multi-signed specials.

To add to interest this collection includes some later signed varieties. Either way the 170 signed covers are all hard to find and in addition you get 125 standard flown covers, plus lots of photographs etc. There are a few of the ‘bigger’ names including Barnes Wallis, Adolf Galland and Douglas Bader, but I think it is the more unusual signatures that makes this collection really interesting.

£150 per month over 10 months RAB07 £1500

FOUR ALBUMS, OVER 290 COVERS!

The Battle of Britain

This is far from one of your standard Battle of Britain collections of 20 covers. The six albums contain over 130 covers ranging from the 25th Anniversary in 1965 through to 2010. There are 45 covers with a single signature, but the strength is in the 85 multi- signed covers. These must have a massive value, but we just don’t have the time to list them all individually and we would much rather keep the collection together. Also included are lots of other bits and pieces including invitations to and a large section on the 2010 Battle of Britain Memorial at St Pauls.

7 www.buckinghamcovers.com The RAF Specials

The name to remember is Eric Wormald, not as a signer, but as the producer of some of the rarest RAF covers you will ever see.

When a new cover was issued Bill Randle would send him around 25 covers with his mission to make them an extra special variety. When complete they did not go on general sale, instead he invited only the top customers to buy them. If you were not on his list, you probably would not even know they exist. Now 30 plus years later these occasionally appear on the market and you can tell if the cover is his by his handwritten certification on the reverse. As an example we show his Defence Medal cover, where I think we are in the unique situation of having two of the twenty six covers in stock

The Defence Medal Special This cover is firstly signed by six of the Medal winners who’s planes are shown on the plus twenty Victoria Cross and two George Cross winners, one Admiral of the Fleet and two Marshals of the RAF. His sheet of names seems to apologise that he did not get all the ‘top’ members of the Forces to sign due to the lack of space, we don’t think anyone will mind.
