Travellers from all countries need a visa.  We highly recommend you to apply for online visas (US $ 35 for Tourist Visa) to avoid unnecessary delays in trying to obtain Visa on arrival, which can take an hour or so of waiting in line. SAARC Nationals pay US $ 20 online, and US $ 25 if applying on arrival. Please click here to apply online.  A valid passport not less than 6 , a confirmed return or onward air ticket and sufficient funds for the stay are the entry requirements to the country. If obtaining a visa on arrival, please pay by (US $ 40 for Tourist Visa) since payment by credit cards can take longer to process. PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN SRI LANKA  Visas for Male – There are no specific requirements for entry and everyone gets a visitor’s visa on arrival. A few items are not allowed to carry like alcohol; drugs; pornography and idols of worship. Prefer to check with the concerned department to check if there are any revised Government policies

Day 1 – Airport - Wadumunnegedara

Horathapola Estate, Wadumunnegedara

Hidden amidst the beautiful lush landscapes of rural Sri Lanka lies Horathapola Estate, a plantation bungalow surrounded by a working organic plantation. A hourand a halfs’s drive from the Bandaranaike International Airport, this grand plantation bungalow dates from the early 1900. It has been beautifully restored to host five spacious luxury guestrooms and is a fully functioning organic coconut estate of roughly 50 acres. It sustains the livelihoods of about 30 families living in the neighbouring village. An ideal place to break journey after your long flight in to Sri Lanka, Horathapola Estate will help you relax and unwind before you set out to explore the rest of .

Day 2 - Wadumunnegedara

This morning you can either spend day at leisure or engage in leisure activities. Horathapola has many on offer.

Activities range from a guided walking tour through the nearby village. The walk is an ideal opportunity for meeting and chatting with the friendly locals, bird watching and visiting an organic coconut oil manufacturing plant & a Village Temple)

You may also experience a traditional cooking experience, some Cycling - Take a ride around the village trails on a bicycle, Make a visit to the local “pola’’ (farmers market) – (active only on Saturdays) & a Bullock Cart Ride.

Day 3 – Wadumunnegedara - Sigiriya

After breakfast, transfer to Water Garden, Sigiriya (approx. 3 ½ hours)

Spread across 35 acres with the magnificent Sigiriya Rock Fortress as the backdrop, Water Garden was designed by renowned Sri Lankan architect Channa Dasawatte as a tribute to the ancient water gardens that once surrounded Sigiriya Rock Fortress. The hotel has been built using some of the finest materials in the world and is furnished tastefully, highlighting several creative pieces done by local artists. Take refuge from the sun in the open-plan reception before you are taken to your respective villa in a buggy. Water Garden offers accommodation in 30 villas in three categories - 13 Standard Villas (950sqft), 13 Deluxe Villas (1282sqft) and 4 Duplex Villas (2135sqft).

Afternoon visit minneriya /Kaudulla or Hurullu Eco Park depending on the movements of the elephants.

Minneriya / Kaudulla National Park

‘The Gathering of Elephants’, which is ranked among the world’s top wildlife viewing spectacles runs from June – October each year. Each afternoon, around 150 - 200 individual elephants come out of the forest in to the open to graze on the fresh green pasture by the water’s edge at Minneriya and Kaudulla national parks. You have excellent opportunities here to observe the social dynamics of the as the large bulls in musth compete among each other and seek the females within the herd, while young calves with carefree abandon get up to their mischievous antics often to the displeasure of its alert mothers within the herd.

Other large animals found here include Jackal, Spotted Deer, Grey Langur and Toque are the other large animals found here, while flocks of Painted Stork, Spot-billed Pelican, Asian Open bill and Indian Cormorant are found at the water’s edge by the tanks. Grey- headed Fishing Eagle and White-bellied Sea Eagle soar above the tanks preying on fish and other small animals.

Day 4 - Sigiriya

Early this morning engage in a hot air ballooning ride.

(Usually conducted between 20th October to end of April.)

The flight takes approximately 1 hour (plus or minus 10 minutes) depending on landing sites.

Hot air ballooning provides visitors panoramic views of the Sri Lankan countryside. The balloon takes off from Sigiriya, and goes over the cultural triangle where you can see the splendour of the Rock, the dense expanses of forests and the stunning man-made built in ancient times that hold rain water, used to irrigate paddy fields and vegetable plots.

(Hot air ballooning is totally weather dependent, flights will be cancelled by the Pilots for safety reasons)

Sigiriya Rock Fortress

Referred to as ‘The Lion Rock’ by locals, Sigiriya became the capital during the reign of King Kashyapa in the 4th century A.D. After slaying his own father, King Dhatusena of to take the and fearing a retaliatory attack from the rightful heir Moggallana who fled to neighboring India, the new King constructed his royal palace on the of this 200 meter high rock with a fortress for his own protection. Walk through the meticulously landscaped Royal Gardens and ascend towards the summit where only ruins of the royal palace now remain. A visit to the gallery with its ancient paintings of the King's maids in waiting and the Mirror Wall with ancient transcripts that closely match the modern day Sinhalese should also not be missed. In 495 A.D, Moggallana returned from his exile and defeated the King re-instating Anuradhapura as the capital. Sigiriya was then used as a Buddhist monastery until the prior to being mysteriously abandoned.

There is a lot to see and explore at the lower levels of Sigiriya and for those wishing to climb, please note that there are occasional seasonal visitations from at the higher levels. This is usually during the middle of the day and in response to noise and other disturbances. We therefore schedule early morning visits for those wishing to climb to the top.

Day 5 – Sigiriya - Kegalle

After a leisurely breakfast, drive to the Rosyth Estate House, Kegalle via Kandy (approx. 4 hours drive)

Kandy

Kandy was established as a city by King Wikramabahu III from the Kingdom of in the 13th Century AD and was given the name ‘Senkadagalapura Siriwardhana Maha Nuwara’ which was shortened to ‘Maha Nuwara’ which means ‘Great City’ or ‘Capital’. Today, Kandy is Sri Lanka’s second largest city after Colombo and is given a UNESCO World Heritage status as a sacred city due to the importance of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Kandy was the capital of the last Sinhalese Kingdom under King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe which finally succumbed to British rule in 1815 after repelling several other invasions from the Portugese and the Dutch. The King was also responsible for building the which sprawls across the central area of the city. Lying at an altitude of 500m above sea level and surrounded by Knuckles and Hunnasgiriya mountain ranges, the temperatures around Kandy are slightly cooler and conditions more pleasant than in the lowlands.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic Kandy

Referred locally as the Sri Dalada Maligawa, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is the most revered site in the country. The Temple was built in the 16th century AD and is located adjacent to the Royal Palace complex of the former and overlooks the expanses of the Kandy Lake. Housing the sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha, the building has held a significant role in local politics since ancient times, with a belief that whoever holds the relic has the right to govern the country. The sacred tooth was smuggled in to Sri Lanka from India by a princess in the 4th century AD and was initially kept in Anuradhapura and then moved across the country over time before being housed in Kandy. This sacred temple attracts thousands of white-clad on a daily basis bearing lotus blossoms and frangipani for their offerings which are known as pujas. Ensure that you dress appropriately, wearing clothes that cover your legs and shoulders and please do remove your shoes before entering the holy temple.

On arrival at Maldives airport the resort/hotel host will be awaiting with a placard with your name and then you will be escorted to speed boat which will take 40 minutes to reach Cocoa Island.

 Approximate drive times given in the itinerary are direct drive times and do not take into account any traffic situations, road repairs or stops along the way which might increase the time it takes to arrive at the destination.  Please note that in most properties, the normal check in time is 14:00 Hrs and normal check out time is 12:00 Hrs (noon). Any costs incurred due to amendments will not be borne by &Beyond Lanka.  Where your domestic flights, train rides, balloon rides, White Water Rafting, Safaris, Whale or Dolphin Watching Charters, have been organized by us, and while we take the maximum care to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for you, &Beyond Lanka Private Ltd. is not responsible for the fitness of the operators or the safety standards of the operating company.  Dietary Requirements: All dietary requirements can be catered for. Every effort will be made to operate itineraries as planned, but alterations may occur after the final itinerary has been issued.  &Beyond strongly recommends that the guests insure themselves against loss of deposit, cancellation charges, medical expenses and loss of personal possessions, and any other foreseeable loss or expense.  Photography During Travel A. &Beyond reserves the right to take photographs or video during the operation of any program or part thereof and to use them for promotional purposes during the program and thereafter. By booking a program with &Beyond, guests agree to allow their images to be used in such photographs. Guests who prefer that their images not be used are asked to identify themselves to &Beyond representative at the beginning of their program.  Guest Obligations: 1. Medical Conditions – the guest must notify &Beyond of any pre-existing medical conditions that might reasonably be expected to affect the Travel Arrangements. The guest agrees and acknowledges that &Beyond will not be liable for any loss or damage incurred by the guest as a result of any pre-existing medical condition or health issue of the Customer that may preclude, delay, affect or interfere with the Travel Arrangements. 2. Health Issues – It is the guests sole responsibility to a) obtain any or take any other health precautions applicable to the country of travel; b) take all steps reasonably necessary (including, without limitation, the consultation of appropriate medical professionals) to identify whether they have any pre-existing medical conditions or health issues (whether known or unknown) that may preclude, delay, affect or interfere with the Travel Arrangements; and

c) notify &Beyond if the guest has any pre-existing medical conditions or health issues that may preclude, delay, affect or interfere with the Travel Arrangements.

PAYMENT & CANCELLATION POLICY

100% payment at the time of booking (within 72 hours) (non Booking made within 45 days of arrival refundable)

Booking made more than 45 days prior to arrival 25% payment at the time of booking (within 7 days ) and balance 75% , 60 to 100 days prior to arrival Cancellation 60 days or more prior to arrival No cancellation/ retention charge, except for cancellation fee on air tickets/ train tickets or deposits made for Game drives in National Parks. Should it be a last-minute booking, &Beyond will allow for 3 days from time of confirmation until payment (100%) reaches us before &Beyond South Asia will cancel any services booked. The amount is NON– REFUNDABLE.

Kindly note that payments may be processed with Visa and MasterCard credit cards. Payments may also be paid directly into &Beyond India or US bank account details.

 All payments received through credit card will attract an additional 2.50% transaction fee on the total invoice amount being paid.

 All payments received through PayPal will attract an additional 2.0% transaction fee on the total invoice amount being paid.
