Itinerary Day 1 Hong Kong - Bangkok Punakha Dzong Take the flight to Bangkok and check-in the hotel in Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport by self. (Hotel offers 24-hour complimentary shuttle service at Gate 4, Arrival Level, Level 2. Guest could also access to the hotel by 5-minute covered walk.)

Overnight in Bangkok Day 2 Bangkok - Paro - Thimphu (L, D) Take the early flight to Paro. The flight to Paro is one of the most spectacular mountain flights in the world, with a constantly changing panorama of some of the highest mountains on earth. On arrival, we will drive for 20 minutes to Paro town (2200m). From here, we will walk to Paro Dzong crossing the cantilever bridge. This 17th century fortress will introduce us to the Bhutanese way of life. The architecture, monk and mural paintings will help us understand the way of life and Bhutanese queer customs, traditions and philosophies. The medieval strategic fortress now serves as district administrative centers and residence for monks. Paro Dzong

After lunch we will drive to Thimphu (2300m), the nation’s capital. In the evening we can join hundreds of Bhutanese chanting and circumambulating the memorial stupa. The Late Royal Grand Mother Ashi Phuntsho Choden Wangchuk built it in 1974 in memory of the third king and dedicated to the world peace and prosperity. The numerous religious paintings and complex tantric statues housed inside the monument reflect both the peaceful and wrathful aspect of Buddhist deities.

Overnight in Thimphu Day 3 Thimphu (B, L, D) Today, we will drive north of Thimphu. Our first stop is at the Astrology school. After visiting the school we continue the A stupa in Thimphu journey with hiking to Wangditse and Choekhortse. Wangditse Goemba was founded in 1750 by the attendants of Bhutan’s 8th Desi, Yeshey Rabgye. It was renovated in 2002 after it suffered serious damage by a windstorm in 1995. The goemba houses the statues of the guardian deities Yeshey Gonpo (Mahakala), Palden Lhamo (Mahakali) and Tsheringma (the Goddess of Longevity).

We will come back to Thimphu for lunch. After lunch we will visit the Post Office and make customized stamps. Then we will visit the Paper Factory to see how traditional paper is made. In the evening we can visit the mini zoo to see the national animal the Takin.

Overnight in Thimphu

Day 4 Thimphu - Punakha (B, L, D) Thimphu City Centre Today after early breakfast we will drive to Punakha. Drive over the high mountain pass of Dochu La Pass (3050m) to see 108 Chortens and if we are lucky we will see the spine of the Himalayas.

On arrival, walk through a small village to Chimi Lakhang (the Temple of the Divine Madman). Lama Drukpa Kinley, more commonly known as the “Divine Madman,” is one of Bhutan’s favorite saints. He traveled throughout Bhutan and Tibet using songs, humor, and outrageous behavior to dramatize his teachings, believing that the stiffness of the clergy and social conventions were keeping people from learning the true Buddhist teachings. This site is still believed to hold fertility powers for women! From the vantage point of Chimi Lakhang, there is a spectacular view of the Punakha Valley.

Overnight in Punakha 108 Chortens Day 5 Punakha - Phobjikha - Punakha (B, L, D) After an early breakfast, transfer to the beautiful valley of Gangtey. Gangtey is home to the rare Black Necked Cranes migrating from the Tibetan plateau to escape the harsh winter.

You will visit the Crane center Black Necked Crane Information Centre. Then visit, Gangtey Goenpa Monastery, which is the biggest Nyingmapa monastery in Bhutan. The Monastery is surrounded by a large village inhabited mainly by the families of the 140 Gomchens who take care of the Monastery. Then transfer back to Punakha Valley.

Overnight in Punakha Day 6 Punakha - Paro (B, L, D) The spine of Himalayas This morning we will drive along the Pho Chu River and then cross the suspension bridge and after a short pleasant walk, enter the historic 17th century Fortress “Punakha Dzong”. It was built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and connected to Bhutan’s historical traditions.Later we will drive back to Paro.

Overnight in Paro Day 7 Paro (B, L, D) Today after breakfast, we will walk up to Tiger’s Nest (approx. 2.5 hours uphill and 2.5 hours downhill). The monastery is the most famous in Bhutan and recently has been listed one of the ten holiest places in the world. This is one of the Tiger’s Nest highlights of the trip.

It’s perched on the high cliff of 900 meters above the floor of Paro valley. It is named Tiger’s nest because Guru Rimpoche is said to have flown to the site on the back of tigress in the 8th century. This monastery is the holiest in Bhutan. The five-hour walk to the monastery involving some intense but rewarding climb over 900m cleanses both the soul and the body.

Overnight in Paro Days 8 Paro - Bangkok - Hong Kong (B) Tashi Delek! Take the flight by own via Bangkok and back to Hong Kong.
