Please Your Palate This year’s eleven tasting pavilions bring more chefs, more flavor, more food! Along with familiar favorites, four new tasting pavilions in 2015 will satiate the hungriest of event goers. Due to the overwhelming popularity of the newly added BBQ pavilion in 2014, Chicago Gourmet is taking things to a whole new level. The Global BBQ, Beer and Bourbon Pavilion, presented by COUNTRY Financial, has become a full-on feast housed in the entire South Promenade tent – complete with live music provided by everyone’s favorite rock station, 93XRT. The showcases chefs’ best renditions of all things grilled and smoked, while the vibrant cuisine of Mexico takes center stage at a newly added pavilion presented by the Mexico Tourism Board and The Italian Invasion spotlights both traditional and contemporary Italian fare.

For the wine and spirits lover in all of us, presenting sponsor Southern Wine & Spirits of Illinois presents engaging wine seminars available to Main Event attendees. 2015 brings new sessions like Silver Oak: The Evolution of an American Icon. Guided by Master Sommelier Serafin Alvarado, this seminar dives into the innovation and unyielding commitment to sustainability that has kept Silver Oak at the forefront of American viticulture for more than four decades. Also new in 2015 is Diamond in the Dark, a sensory experience where guests are blindfolded throughout a tasting journey of special wines from Francis Ford Coppola Winery’s flagship Diamond Collection. Led by Henry “Hoby” Wedler, a blind University of California at Davis graduate student of organic chemistry, the tasting explores how flavors and aromas in wine are heightened by simply tasting wines in complete darkness.

Attendees will also participate in new, interactive cocktail sessions, where they will shake, stir and sip with Southern’s seasoned mixology experts – Bridget Albert and Natalia Cardenas – as well as special guests from their favorite spirit companies.

Support the Future of the Industry In 2014, Chicago Gourmet raised more than $110,000 for the Illinois Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, the Charlie Trotter’s Culinary Education Foundation, the Kendall College Charitable Trust and other non-profit organizations crucial to the future of the hospitality industry. The team plans to exceed giving in 2015 to these entities as well as the James Beard Foundation and Pilot Light through its Beyond Gourmet series, newly added events in 2015 and the annual online auction, which goes live in September.
