DESCRIPTION

The Jim Rouse Theatre Technical Director supports Wilde Lake High School (WLHS), the Jim Rouse Theatre (JRT) for the Performing Arts, and its clients in presenting a broad range of theatre, dance, music, film, and community events. The technical director supervises and participates in production set- up and strikes, acts as lighting/sound for events, provides direction for crews as needed and oversees maintenance of theatre equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 This position operates under the supervision of the JRT Theatre Manager and the WLHS Administration.  Set up and supervise all technical requirements for events in the JRT.  Act as Production Manager for rentals as required.  Act as Manager for rental and school events as required.  Design lighting and scenic elements for rentals as determined by client needs.  Proficiency with the High End Systems Whole Hog 3 lighting console and the Yamaha 02R96v2 audio console.  Attend production meetings related to future events.  Supervise and staff technicians as needed for rental events.  Oversee contractors hired by clients.  Manage and carry out logistical operations to maximize operations.  Coordinate the use of sound systems and consoles, focus light plots and consoles, setup and staging requirements as required; notify the Theatre Manager of any equipment malfunctions, safety violations and improper use of equipment by or users.  Willingness to work irregular schedule during peak operations; position requires extended hours including days, nights, holidays and weekends to assist and resolve all technical problems during events.  Utilize Windows XP, HogPC, Mac OSX, iTunes, GarageBand and AudioDesk to ensure the maximum functioning of the Jim Rouse Theatre.  Perform regular and annual maintenance of equipment and inspect facility as needed.  Maintain appropriate stock of expendable supplies.  Update equipment and capability inventory and provide information to clients.

 Enforce all rules and regulations to provide safe and comfortable environment as required by HCPSS.  Support student effort to produce events for Wilde Lake Arts Department and various student organizations  Assist the teacher with providing students in the stage craft class with opportunities related to technical theater and theater safety.  Train student crew to run school-related events.  Mentor student(s) for and each year.

QUALIFICATIONS

 A Bachelor’s degree in Theater, , or a related field.  Experience with theatre management of performances and technical facilities.  Experience working within educational facilities.  Experience Working with Professional and Union crews/organizations.  Working knowledge of scenic carpentry, painting, theatrical lighting, and sound systems.  Experience in a wide variety of theatre-related arts such as sound, lighting, and rigging or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Live audio and mixing experience is required.  Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills.  Physically capable of lifting 75 pounds comfortably.  Able to walk on catwalks and ladders.

SALARY

This is a 10-month, Grade 20 position on the Central Office Technical Salary Scale. Salary assignment for this position will be in accordance with the Howard County Public School System salary procedures and the guidelines set for in the Howard County Education Association negotiated agreement. The current salary range is $29,972-$68,798. Compensation from organizations utilizing the Rouse Theatre for outside events will be paid at a rate of $24.00 per hour.
