that was earlier announced to be scheduled for Port Elizabeth on 21 and 22 May 2009. Reasons for this is the lack of time to organize such an event and the general congested progamme of others congresses that have already been arranged for this year. No final decision has been taken by the Board as to whether such a congress will be hosted during 2010.

We apologise for any inconvenience in this regard.

STRIKING OF MEMBERS AND PRACTICES DUE TO NON-PAYMENT OF FEES

This action was undertaken in terms of clause 6.5 of the Constitution of the Association.

ASAQS ENDORSES CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY PUBLICATION

After consultation and with the support and commitment of some 15 industry related organisations within the built environment, Essential Publishing has announced the production of a Construction Industry Special Publication, which will undoubtedly provide a hitherto unpublished broad-spectrum profile of the industry and all who operate within it.

This special publication will be distributed with the June 2009 edition of Succeed, a magazine that focuses on entrepreneurship and management in Southern Africa within the built environment. Succeed is published monthly and has a reported circulation of 27 000 copies per edition. It is widely read by decision makers in National, Local and Provincial Government as well as leaders in the private and public file:///C|/Users/Bert%20vd%20Heever/Documents/My%20Websites/ASAQS/News/Issues/250409.htm[2012/10/16 20:10:39] Weekend Property & Construction News

construction sectors.

Through the allocation of editorial space, the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS) – as one of the industry related organisations - will promote the developments that have changed the face of the industry over recent years.

For more information on how you can promote your business in this magazine, please contact the project director of the publication, Bino de Gouveia of Essential Publishing on 011 694 8111 or by email at [email protected]. Bino will provide more details of the benefits of supporting this unique and special project.

PUBLICATION OF THE ASAQS "CENTENARY PUBLICATION"

Although the initial indications were that the publication would be launched around November 2008, due to inevitable publishing delays this target date was sadly not achieved and the anticipated publication date will be sometime around June 2009. We wish to apologise to the readers and advertisers alike for any inconvenience caused as a result of this delay.

Nevertheless we would invite all QS practices to assist the ASAQS by furnishing us with interesting photos and memorabilia for possible inclusion in the publication. In particular we will have a chapter intitled "Major Projects" and we are specifically looking for photos for this chapter depicting interesting projects that may have some significance in the history of the ASAQS.

We are pleased to advise that Professor Thys Sigle' has also agreed to assist the ASAQS with the preparation of the draft document prior to going to print. We wish to thank him for his willingness to assist the ASAQS in this very important task

The growing debate around SACAP fees and the role of the organisation is drawing some pretty contentious views from the design community on DesignMind and Facebook.
