Description

CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1 is a patch release that provides manageability support such as grouping, provisioning, reporting, and troubleshooting EnergyWise devices. EnergyWise allows customers to monitor, change, and facilitate efficient operations and reduce power consumption across the enterprise. CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1 should be installed on top of CiscoWorks RME 4.3 (with LMS 3.2).

New Features

The following are the new features and enhancements in CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1: • New Attributes in Group Management • EnergyWise Readiness Report • Enhancement in Detailed Device Report • Netconfig Tasks for EnergyWise Configuration • NetShow CommandSet for Troubleshooting EnergyWise • Enhancement in Technology Portlet • EnergyWise Capability Summary Portlet

New Attributes in Group Management You can use the following new EnergyWise Device and Port attributes to define User-defined groups in RME. • EnergyWise Device Attributes: – EnergyWise.Domain_Name – EnergyWise.EnergyWiseState – EnergyWise.EnergyWiseVersion – EnergyWise.Importance – EnergyWise.Keyword – EnergyWise.Role • EnergyWise Port Attributes: – EnergyWise_Importance – EnergyWise_Keyword – EnergyWise_Role – IsEnergyWisePort

EnergyWise Readiness Report The EnergyWise Readiness report is a new inventory report in RME 4.3.1. You can generate the EnergyWise Readiness report to view the list of devices that are EnergyWise enabled and EnergyWise disabled. You can also view devices that do not have EnergyWise supported software images.

Enhancement in Detailed Device Report This is an existing inventory report in RME and has been enhanced to display the following EnergyWise information: • EnergyWise Device Information (Domain Name, Keyword, Role, Importance) • EnergyWise Interfaces Information (Index, Interface Name, Interface Description, Keyword, Role, Importance)

Netconfig Tasks for EnergyWise Configuration The following Netconfig tasks have been added to help you configure EnergyWise on devices and ports. • EnergyWise Configuration—Allows you to configure EnergyWise on devices. This task is available only in the Device-based flow of the NetConfig job. • EnergyWise Parameters—Allows you to configure EnergyWise on ports. This task is available only in the Port-based flow of the NetConfig job. • EnergyWise Events—Allows you to configure EnergyWise events on ports of EnergyWise supported devices. This task is available only in the Port-based flow of the NetConfig job.

NetShow CommandSet for Troubleshooting EnergyWise The NetShow feature in RME provides the Show EnergyWise Info System-defined command set. You can run this for EnergyWise devices to display EnergyWise status information.

Enhancement in Technology Portlet Apart from the existing RME technology links, the RME Technology portlet is enhanced to display EnergyWise related links, such as: • Detailed Device Report—Launches the RME Detailed Device report for EnergyWise enabled devices and displays the following information: – EnergyWise Device Information (Domain Name, Keyword, Role, Importance) – EnergyWise Interfaces Information (Index, Interface Name, Interface Description, Keyword, Role, Importance) • EnergyWise Readiness Report—Launches the RME EnergyWise Readiness report and displays the list of devices that are EnergyWise enabled, disabled, and software incapable. – EnergyWise enabled devices—EnergyWise devices that are enabled for EnergyWise functions. – EnergyWise disabled devices—EnergyWise devices that are disabled for EnergyWise functions. There is an option in the report to enable these devices for EnergyWise functions. – EnergyWise software incapable devices—Although these devices are capable of EnergyWise support, the software image running on these devices does not support EnergyWise functions. In this case, the current image needs to be upgraded to an EnergyWise supported image to support EnergyWise functions. There is an option in this report that allows you to do this. • Configure EnergyWise on Devices—Allows you to configure EnergyWise on devices by using RME NetConfig jobs. • Configure EnergyWise on Ports—Allows you to configure EnergyWise on ports by using RME NetConfig jobs. • EnergyWise Event Configuration—Allows you to configure EnergyWise Events on ports by using RME NetConfig jobs. • EnergyWise Statistics—Displays information about EnergyWise events and errors. Launches the Devices and Command Sets page of the RME Netshow job flow.

EnergyWise Capability Summary Portlet The EnergyWise Capability Summary is a new portlet added to RME 4.3.1. In the EnergyWise Capability Summary portlet, you can view a pie-graph that plots the count of devices based on EnergyWise capability. Each section in the graph represents the devices that are EnergyWise enabled, EnergyWise disabled and EnergyWise software incapable.

Downloading CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1

You can download CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1 from Cisco.com.

Note You must be a registered Cisco.com user to download these files.

To download CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1:

Step 1 Click http://www.cisco.com/public/sw-center/index.shtml. You must a registered Cisco.com user to access this Software Download site. The site prompts you to enter your Cisco.com username and password in the login screen, if you have not logged in already. Step 2 Select the Software Product Category as Network Management. Step 3 Select Routing and Switching Management > CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution Bundle > CiscoWorks Resource Manager Essentials > CiscoWorks Resource Manager Essentials 4.3 from the product tree. Step 4 Select the product software type as CiscoWorks Resource Manager Essentials Software. Step 5 Select a platform. To download RME 4.3.1 for Solaris: a. Click the Solaris link. b. Select 4.3.1 from the Latest Releases folder. c. Locate the rme4_3_1_sol.zip file. To download RME 4.3.1 for Windows: a. Click the Windows link. b. Select 4.3.1 from the Latest Releases folder. c. Locate the rme4_3_1_win.zip file. Step 6 Download these files into a temporary directory on your system.

Installing CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1

This section provides instructions to install CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1 on Windows and Solaris. See Downloading CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1 for further information. Before you install CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1 on Windows and Solaris, ensure that CiscoWorks RME 4.3 (with LMS 3.2) is installed on the CiscoWorks . For prerequisites and instructions to install RME 4.3 (with LMS 3.2), see Installing and Getting Started With CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution 3.2. Installing CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1 on Windows

This section provides instructions to install CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1 on Windows.

Note We recommend that you take a backup of CiscoWorks RME 4.3 data before beginning the installation.

To install CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1:

Step 1 Navigate to the location on your system, where you have downloaded the rme4_3_1_win.zip file. Step 2 Unzip the rme4_3_1_win.zip file. The contents of the zip file are extracted to the rme4_3_1_win folder. Step 3 Navigate to rme4_3_1_win folder where rme4_3_1_win.zip is extracted. Step 4 Double-click the rme4_3_1_win.exe file. A dialog box appears with the following message: Automatic data backup do not happen during this installation. We recommend you to take a backup of data before starting this installation. Do you want to continue the installation? Step 5 Click Yes to proceed or No to exit installation. • If the WMI service is up and running, the following message appears when installation starts: Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is running. This locks processes and impedes installation. To avoid WMI conflicts, this Setup program will stop and immediately restart the WMI service. • If the WMI service is not running, the Installation program takes you to the Welcome window. Step 6 Click OK to proceed. The Welcome window appears. Step 7 Click Next to continue. The Software License Agreement dialog box appears. Step 8 Select I accept the terms of the license agreement to accept the license agreement. Step 9 Click Next to proceed with the installation. The System Requirements dialog box appears. The Installation program checks the system configuration and required space. For more information on the System Requirements, see Installing and Getting Started With CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution 3.2. Step 10 Click Next. The Daemons Restart Option window appears with the following message: If no other CiscoWorks application installations are pending, you can choose to start CiscoWorks Daemons. Do you want to restart CiscoWorks Daemons at the end of this installation? If you want to start CiscoWorks Daemons, click Yes. If you do not want to start CiscoWorks Daemons, click No.

Step 11 Either: • Click Yes to restart the CiscoWorks daemons at the end of the installation. Or • Click No, if you do not want to restart the CiscoWorks daemons at the end of the installation. I In this case, you need to restart the CiscoWorks daemons manually, by running the following command from the command prompt: net start crmdmgtd The summary dialog box appears, displaying the current settings. If you want to change the settings, select Change Settings. Step 12 Click Install to continue with the installation. The installation program installs CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1 in the same directory where you have installed CiscoWorks RME 4.3. Step 13 Click Finish to complete the installation.

Installing CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1 on Solaris

This section provides instructions to install CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1 on Solaris.

Note We recommend that you take a backup of CiscoWorks RME 4.3 data before beginning the installation.

To install CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1:

Step 1 Navigate to the location on your system, where you have downloaded the rme4_3_1_sol.zip file. Step 2 Unzip the rme4_3_1_sol.zip file by entering: unzip rme4_3_1_sol.zip The contents of the zip file are extracted to the rme4_3_1_sol folder. Step 3 Navigate to rme4_3_1_sol folder where rme4_3_1_sol is extracted. Step 4 Run the installation program by entering: ./setup.sh The following message appears: Welcome to Resource Manager Essentials 4.3.1 setup program. Step 5 Press Enter to read the license agreement. The following message appears at the end of the license agreement: You must accept this License agreement to proceed with the installation. If you enter N/n, the installation will exit. Do you accept all the terms of the preceding License Agreement? (y/n) [y]:

Step 6 Either: • Enter y to accept the license and continue with the installation. Or • Enter n to stop the installation. If you accept the license agreement, the installation proceeds. While installing from the network drive, the following message appears. The installation image is being accessed from a network drive. We recommend that you run the installation from a local CD or a local hard drive to avoid errors that may result from the network being slow or busy. Do you want to proceed? (y/n) [y]: Step 7 Click y to continue with the installation. The following message appears: Automatic data backup do not happen during this installation. We recommend you to take a backup of data before starting this installation. Do you want to continue the installation? (y/n) [n]: Step 8 Click y to continue with the installation without taking a backup of the data or if a backup has already been taken. The Daemons Restart Option message appears: If no other CiscoWorks application installations are pending, you can choose to start CiscoWorks Daemons. Do you want to restart CiscoWorks Daemons at the end of this installation? (y/n) [n]: Step 9 Either: • Enter y to restart the CiscoWorks daemons at the end of the installation. Or • Enter n if you do not want to restart the CiscoWorks daemons at the end of the installation. In this case you need to restart the CiscoWorks daemons manually, by running the following script at the command prompt: /etc/init.d/dmgtd start The following warning message appears: Exiting installation beyond this point might result in system instability. Do you want to continue the installation? (y/n) Step 10 Either: • Enter y to continue with the installation. Or • Enter n to stop the installation. If you enter y and continue with the installation, the installation program installs CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1 in the same directory where you have installed CiscoWorks RME 4.3. After installation is complete, the following message appears: Software Installation Tool Completed. Possible Warnings/Errors Encountered. The installation program lists the warnings and error messages.

Verifying Installation

After you install CiscoWorks RME 4.3.1, you must verify the installation. To verify the installation:

Step 1 Launch CiscoWorks by entering. http://server_name:port_number where server_name is the name of the CiscoWorks Server and port_number is the TCP port used by the CiscoWorks Server. In normal mode (HTTP), the default TCP port for CiscoWorks Server is 1741. When SSL is enabled (HTTPS), the default TCP port for CiscoWorks Server is 443. Step 2 Select Common Services > Software Center > Software Update. The Software Updates window appears and displays the version of Resource Manager Essentials as 4.3.1 in the Products Installed table.
