Major responsibilities include: • Coordinate professional graduate environmental planning program. • Work closely with the faculty in developing and expanding major concentration areas for graduate students. • Maintain close relationships with local planning agencies and firms for potential internships and employment opportunities for graduate students. • Advise all entering students for their curriculum development, and work with continuing graduate students to develop their areas of interests and future thesis topics. • Advise all students for their professional career development. • Identify and recruit potential students, particularly for minority and returning students. • Work closely with the Planning Accreditation Board for addressing any requirements for maintaining the graduate academic program accreditation. • Work with the faculty in shaping and planning for future curriculum and academic program development for graduate program. Major responsibilities were: • Coordinate undergraduate urban planning. • Advise all undergraduate students for curriculum development, their areas of interests, and potential independent project topics. • Work with local planning agencies and firms for possible studio projects as well as internships for students. • Advise all students for their professional career development. • Identify and recruit potential students, particularly for minority and returning students. • Visit local high schools for introducing our academic programs and recruitment purposes. • Develop assessment criteria for student learning, particularly for undergraduate seniors before graduation. • Work closely with the Planning Accreditation Board for addressing any requirements for maintaining undergraduate academic program accreditation. • Work with the faculty in shaping and planning for future curriculum and academic program development for undergraduate planning program. Major responsibilities and accomplishments for each project were as follows:

Corporate/Government Liaison Project College of Extended • Developed strategic plans to shape Arizona State University (ASU) and College of Extended Education missions and policies to foster educational linkages and partnerships with corporations and government agencies. • Evaluated various corporate universities and government education and training programs to effectively assess the educational marketplace in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. • Established targeted academic programs (degree, non-degree, certificate and short courses) for creative partnerships and collaborative relationships with corporate and government sectors. • Identified student needs and recommended various programs for life- long learning opportunities for working adults. • Based on a comprehensive research, defined Distance Learning Technology opportunities for ASU and the College of Extended Education. • Recommended future directions for some of the programs in the College of Extended Education.

Academic Planning and Development for Second Branch Campus (ASU East) Project (ASU East opened in the fall of 1996) • Developed a conceptual academic plan for Arizona State University's second branch campus, Arizona State University East, by reviewing other branch campuses of similar universities nationally. • Facilitated a team building with consensus approach by consulting with faculty, administrators, staff and students at Arizona State University Main and Arizona State to solicit their ideas and perspectives. • Conducted field research by analyzing and reviewing 25 high schools in the eastern section of Maricopa County (Phoenix Metropolitan Area) for academic planning and program development for Arizona State University East.

Community College Partnership and Outreach Project • Collaborated with presidents and other senior administrators of the Maricopa County Community College System. • Developed a report for creating seamless articulation and potential two plus two programs between Arizona State University and Community Colleges in Maricopa County. (After the completion of this project, this program has been instituted between the two institutions.)

City of Phoenix Community Partnership Project • As an executive loaned to the city of Phoenix, acted as special Assistant to the City Manager between 1992 and 1994 (Deputy City Manager level). • Identified resources at Arizona State University and linked them to specific needs of the city and managed highly complex and varied city projects during my tenure. • As a member of the executive team, formulated flexible strategic planning processes and implemented a new Neighborhood Services Department. • Also, drafted and completed an assessment study of this newly created unit (Neighborhood Services Department) by evaluating the scope and mission. • Carried out a detailed performance analysis of the entire staff (about 180 staff members) of NSD by measuring employee empowerment initiatives, conducting a focus group and a field study and reviewing the management styles of supervisory staff. • Served as a principal negotiator for a major international aviation project with Korean Airlines to bring international air services to Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport. • Assessed the feasibility of various international economic development projects with a number of companies from China. • Evaluated the city's annual budget process of the Law Department that involved both technical and comprehensive program budget reviews.

United Way Fund Raising Campaign Project • As the university president’s representative, I twice directed and led the major annual fund raising effort of the Valley of the Sun United Way. My areas of responsibilities for employee campaigns include American Express, IBM, DeVry Institute, other small private colleges and universities and several non-profit agencies in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. • Additionally, organized and coordinated various employee campaigns for a large number of businesses in the city of Tempe. Total funds raised for the combined campaigns were about $2.1 million.

Office of Institutional Advancement Assessment and Evaluation Project • Conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the Office of Institutional Advancement. Assessed both functional and operational programs of 20 other universities nationally to develop a plan for restructuring.

• Was instrumental in the creation of the Office of Economic Development for ASU. Conducted a national survey of the existing models of a similar office within the university setting and carried out an extensive study to identify ASU's existing program resources by visiting all academic and non-academic units (chairs, directors and deans). Guided the conceptual framework in developing the office. • Worked with economic development officials (in both public and private sectors) in Arizona to identify economic development strategies, particularly in the area of business recruitment, for the State.
