Paediatrics

Equipped with 120 beds which includes general wards, emergency, NICU and PICU with sophisticated investigations and imaging facilities. Our PICU is a level -III 15 bedded facility with state of the art full fledged multi modal monitoring including ECHO, EEG, ICP monitoring, mechanical ventilation (invasive and non invasive), CRRT and bronchoscope facilities. Sub specialities in Radiology namely non vascular radiological interventions, male infertility imaging, female imaging, transplant imaging are being offered for patients as well as for training post graduate and undergraduate students. The department is equipped with all state of art equipments like 1.5T GE MRI, 128 slice PHILIPS CT scanner, ultrasound machines equipped with elastography and Doppler. Faculty trained from Christian Medical College, Vellore, , SRMC, Chennai and at centres with advanced imaging techniques. Some of the faculty members are certified by International Radiology Boards like European board and Royal College of Radiology. Our team also constitutes expert faculty Dr. N.R. Respiratory Medicine

Equipped with 60 beds for both male & female patients, with sophisticated investigations and imaging facilities. Well structured P.G academic training programs and Hands on training in advanced technologies including videobronchoscopy, sleep lab, advanced pulmonary function testing with advanced critical care management and R.I.C.U Facilities for advanced research like molecular and genomic research laboratories. Degree Course    6 Sports Medicine Equipped with 30 beds for both male & female patients, with sophisticated investigations and imaging facilities. The department is established in the year 2015 with out-patient and in-patient care. It comprises of state-of-the-art sports science lab, exercise physiology lab, kinanthropometry lab, biomechanics and gait lab. Specialty clinics: sports injury clinic, arthroscopic clinic and obesity clinic. Has a well built indoor stadium, football ground, Athletic turf track as per international standards. The department caters medical emergencies and the needs of NSG & TNPA

Anatomy

Well equipped PG research lab to carry out histological, histochemical, immuno histochemical, anthropometric studies. Spacious dissection hall which is well stocked with teaching and learning materials. The department library is stocked with latest editions of national and international books and journals. A total of 57 research papers have been published in the reputed journals from the department since 2010. 153 papers have been presented by the undergraduate and post graduate students since its inception. 72 best paper awards won by the students in oral, poster presentations and best dissertation awards by undergraduates. The departmental museum is equipped with 500 specimens exhibited under various categories including cross sectional anatomy.

Biochemistry Clinical Biochemistry lab is NABL accrediated laboratory since 2006 with fully equipped state of art automated facilities for routine chemistry, hormones, vitamins and tumor markers assay. Students will be trained in Quality control requirements as per ISO 15189:2012 Special care taken to train students in carrying out instrumentation, clinical lab investigations and interpretation of laboratory data. Students undertake individual projects under the guidance of faculty which is presented at various national and regional conferences.

Degree Course    7 The department supports students aspiring in bringing extramural research funds from Indian Council of Medical Research to get research experience. Well equipped post graduate lab to carry out research in molecular field The department also conducts hands on training programme to help students from other Institutions for research training. Departmental research projects are going on with ICMR funding with abundant clinical material available in the institute Department has organized various CME and Guest lectures by professors from various reputed institutions through out Tamilnadu Periodical out reach activities were conducted by the department on nutritional awareness in primary schools involving the post graduate students under the supervision of well trained faculties.

Community Medicine

The department of Community Medicine at CHRI has over 100 publications and over 25 on-going research projects by Faculty and Postgraduates to its credit. Basic Research Methodology Workshops are conducted every year for 1st year postgraduates from all specialties to help in formulation and conduction of their thesis as well as other research projects. Family visits / surveys are regularly conducted in Rural & Urban Center areas. Vulnerable groups are identified and given necessary health education and medical support. Regular community health status monitoring - Outbreak identification, investigation and reporting. Free medical camps are conducted at various villages in the college field practice areas. Training activities outside the institute include: Infectious Disease Hospital-Tondaipet, Central Leprosy Training And Research Institute-Chengalpettu, TB Sanatorium -, Industrial Visits-For Occupation Health Training, JIPMER-Research Methodology Training, visits to Water Treatment Plant, Sewage Treatment Plant, And Milk Processing Units. Urban and rural health centers functioning 24x7 with various broad specialities serving around 1,20,000 and 40,000 population respectively.

Adequate clinical material for training. Well-equipped 24-hour diagnostic clinical laboratory with NABL Accreditation for Microbiology & Serology. Commencement of MD Microbiology course in 2011 and successful seat enhancement in 2013.

Opportunities for interdisciplinary research including molecular microbiology, backed by the central research facility with the state of the art equipment. Encouragement for participation in conferences, workshops both in-house or in other institutes and thereby providing the opportunity to update their knowledge and to present and publish research papers. Pharmacology

The Department of Pharmacology is equipped with highly efficient teachers, good infrastructure and facilities to teach medical, dental, nursing and paramedical courses and encourage research by students and faculty. Offers courses catering to different medical (MBBS, BDS, Nursing) and paramedical UG programs (B.Sc AHS) Conducts PG programs – PhD in Pharmacology, MD Pharmacology and M.Sc in Clinical Research and Experimental Medicine since 2008 taking into consideration the demand for qualified personnel in this field. The department has a well equipped animal house recognized by CPCSEA and an experienced veterinary medical officer who facilitates research projects using animals for all faculty and students The students have access to use HPLC, LCMS and other analytical instruments Those who completed MD Pharmacology are successfully placed in teaching medical institutions and industries. Two of the MD graduates are entrepreneurs having their own Clinical Research Organization. All the students who completed M.Sc CR & EM are employed in CROs, hospitals and other organizations.

Five faculty have completed Ph.D from the department from 2009 to 2018.

Developed a documentary for taking informed consent from the potential research participants to train the post graduates.

Physiology

Post Graduate Programs in Physiology whose quality adheres to the highest standards while conforming to the latest curriculum as prescribed by the concerned Regulatory Authority. A Research Lab equipped with advanced sophisticated instruments for the measurement of various physiological parameters, in order to facilitate short-term research projects and studies by faculty, MD postgraduates, research scholars and undergraduate students Department Library provides extensive literature in the form of Textbooks, Current journals and Review articles with online access to central library resources as required. Highly qualified and well-proficient faculty members with expertise in medical education as well as latest concepts in teaching skills. Centre for Yoga, established for research in the yogic sciences and for dissemination of the benefits of yoga with conduct of classes being part of the weekly schedule. Innovative pedagogical techniques including Problem based Learning, Case based learning as part of Basic Sciences correlation of Early Clinical Exposure, Correct the Doctor Sessions and Flipped classrooms. Adequate laboratory facilities for the undergraduate students to be well trained in the know – how of Haematology and Clinical Physiology. Both Formative and Summative Assessments in line with the present Competency Based Medical Curriculum, focussing on an integrated holistic understanding of Physiology. Online and classroom based electives that encourage the aptitude for Self Directed Learning by the students. Extensive utilization of the Learning Management System that has helped to substantially diminish rote-learning while simultaneously ensuring that more time is provided for the hands-on training of students in practical methodologies.

VIl. Stipend: M.D. and M.S students are eligible for stipend on par with the stipend being paid to PG students of Government Medical colleges in from time to time.

Vlll. Eligibility for admission to M.D./M.S. degree courses:

2020 conducted by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi.

Candidates should have obtained the minimum percentile of marks in the qualifying examination as per Medical Council of India norms.

In order to be eligible for admission to Postgraduate Course for an academic year, it shall be necessary for a candidate to obtain minimum of marks at 50th percentile in the ‘National Eligibility Cum-Entrance Test for Postgraduate courses’ held for the said academic year. However, in respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Class, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes the minimum marks shall be at 40th

Person with Disabilities Act 2016, the minimum mark shall be at 45th percentile for General category and 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC.

As per the Notification issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, there shall be a common counseling for all seats of NEET PG 2020 at National level to be conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services, New Delhi.

Candidates who intend to apply for admission to M.D./M.S. degree courses for the academic year 2020-21, in Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute are advised to register themselves through online web portal of Directorate General of Health Services, New Delhi i.e. www.mcc.nic.in (Medical Counseling Committee) for participating in common counselling and they are advised to periodically check the MCC website for updates viz., Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), Schedule/re-schedule of counselling dates and its process etc.

X. Procedure of admission and details about payment of fees:

On obtaining the online allotment order from the Directorate General of Health Services, New Delhi the allotted student shall report to the University office, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education and fill the application cum reporting form along with the allotment order within the due date as indicated in the allotment order and pay the entire tuition fee and other applicable fee etc., for the academic year 2020-21. Otherwise he/she shall forfeit his/her offer of admission to the course in the Institution without any notice and will have no right to claim the seat, in future.

Candidates provisionally allotted for admission will have to submit all required original certificates with the Institution. Therefore, candidates are advised to keep with them sufficient number of photocopies of their certificates.

Where any student applies for discontinuance, or without any application discontinues on his/her own, from the course to which he/she has been admitted to, for any reason, either on or after the cut-off date prescribed by the statutory and/or University authori- ties for admission to the first year of the course or where the seat is rendered vacant without having any chance of being filled up with any other candidate such students will have to remit the tuition fee and other applicable fees for the ‘entire/ remaining course period’.

Xlll. General Information:

Admissions are subject to fulfillment of all the eligibility conditions prescribed by the University and statutory authorities (Medical Council of India). If it is found at a later stage, that the candidates have submitted false information / forged certificates, his/her admission will be cancelled without any notice and the same shall be final and binding.

Appearance in NEET-PG 2020 does not confer any automatic rights to secure a M.D./M.S. admission. The selection and admission to M.D./M.S. seats in this university is subject to fulfilling the eligibility, medical fitness and such other criteria as may be prescribed by the Directorate General of Health Services, New Delhi, Medical Council of India and this university.

Degree Course    17 Admitted students are bound by the Rules and Regulations of this University framed from time to time in the matter of syllabus, examinations, fee structure, discipline and policy for refund of fee etc.

The University reserves the right to change any of the conditions enumerated periodically or for the purpose of complying with any of the regulations of the statutory councils.

Tuition fee and other dues payable in the subsequent academic years shall be paid by the students within the due date fixed by the Institution failing which the name of the default ing students shall be removed from the rolls of the college after the expiry of due date.

Students himself / herself must be present at the time of reporting. No proxy will be allowed in any circumstances.

All disputes arising in the interpretation and implementation of the provisions in this information bulletin will be referred to the Vice Chancellor, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education and the decision of the Vice Chancellor shall be final and binding.

In respect of matters relating to or arising out of this information bulletin, the jurisdiction shall be at Chennai alone.

Tamil Nadu Medical Council directives (as per letter dated 19.12.2019)

Candidates from other states who are pursuing post graduate courses in Tamilnadu and Pondicherry have to register themselves in the Tamil Nadu Medical Council within 3 months of admission.

Penalty clause: To impose a penalty that Rs.5,000/- (Rupees Five thousand only) would be levied as fine to the candidates of other states who study PG courses in Tamilnadu and Pondicherry if not registered within the prescribed time (3 months).

The penalty for such candidates for registering at the end of the course would be Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten thousand only).

The University follows a Zero Tolerance Policy towards Ragging. Ragging in any form is a crime and a punishable offence. As per the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, University Grants Commission has framed “Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009” and the Medical Council of India has framed “(Prevention and Prohibition of Ragging in Medical Colleges/Institutions) Regulations, 2009” and notified in the Govt. of India Gazette in order to prohibit, prevent and eliminate the scourge of ragging. These regulations are mandatory and provide for punishment of those who abet and indulge in ragging, directly or indirectly.

(ix) Internship Certificate (C.R.R.I.) Completed on or before 31.03.2020.

(x) Permanent Registration Certificate issued by Medical Council of India or State Medical Council

(xiv) Community Certificate: SC/ST/OBC Candidates must bring the Certificate issued by the competent authority in the format as specified in the NBE information bulletin. Sub caste should be clearly mentioned in the certificate and tally with the central list in case of OBC.

The OBC candidates should not belong to creamy layer. Must produce Non Creamy Layer Certificate for OBC with validity period.

(xv) Disability Certificate issued from a duly constituted and authorized Medical Board for 21 Benchmark Disabilities as per the Rights of Persons with Disability Act 2016 (RPWD Act, 2016). Please see clause 10.1 of Information Bulletin of NEET for admission to MD/MS Courses, published by NBE. No other PH certificate, issued by any other Authority/Hospital will be entertained.

(xvi) Recent passport size photographs (6 copies) indicating the name of the candidate and date of capturing the photograph.

(xvii) Capture of left thumb prints – The left thumb prints of reporting candidates will be captured.

(xviii) Capturing of digital image – Digital image of the reporting candidates will be captured and taken on record.

XVl. For NRI / OCI / PIO / Foreign National Candidates:

The definition of NRI for admission to Deemed Universities shall be as per Hon’ble Supreme Court order dated 22.08.2017 in WP No.689/2017.

Admission in MD/MS degree course under NRI quota for 2020-21 shall be based on the NEET PG 2020 qualification and shall come through DGHS counseling.

Indian citizen or Overseas Citizen of India who have obtained their primary medical qualification from Medical Colleges outside India should have passed the screening test, Internship completion on or before 31.03.2020 and qualified in NEET PG 2020

Registration with Medical Council of India / State Medical Council is mandatory with documentary proof. NRI quota shall include OCI and PIO.

Please note that the tuition fee for NRI candidates should be remitted in US Dollar only.
