Dear Regional Municipality of Northern Rockies ,
On behalf of the over 550 small family-owned indoor sunbathing businesses in British Columbia, I am writing regarding a proposed resolution that may be considered at the upcoming Union of BC Municipalities Convention Sept 28/29. Would you please pass this on to your delegates going to the convention and keep this on file for any further discussion on UV tanning salons.
The proposed resolution, submitted by the District of Esquimalt, reads:

BE IT RESOLVED that UBCM lobby the provincial government to introduce legislation to ban indoor tanning for youth under the age of 18. A similar resolution, C23, has also been submitted.
As members of the Joint Canadian Tanning Association, our salons have voluntarily followed industry association guidelines to protect our clients and ensure best practices. These include: parental consent, mandatory protective eye wear, skin typing protection, operator training and certification, as well as other public safety measures. As professionals who place client safety as our first priority, we are concerned that the proposed resolution is flawed for the following reasons:
