Many Australians have, over a long perioid of time, used the rich resources of the Institute to further their studies. An encouraging reply has been received from Professor Davies with the following conclusion : I have acted with a full awareness of the need to achieve an outcome that will secure the long term scholarly and academic integrity of both the Institute and the joint library collections while at the same time providing for the whole of the Classics community both nationally and internationally. Council also received news that Nicholas Purcell of Oxford University will be unable to deliver the Todd Lecture on 31 August due to a serious health problem but has promised to come to Sydney and deliver the Todd when he is fit and able to travel.
