PART V - ACRONYMS AND ABBREVIATIONS 89 INTRODUCTION

The annual Bibliography of the National Center continues to be recognized as an outstanding source of research material available in the field of collective bargaining in higher education and the professions. This nineteen volume series documents the development of collective bargaining in higher education as well as employment and labor relations issues for other professionals. As the dimensions of unionized employment relationships undergo changes, so do the various topics included in this project. Each year subjects are added or removed from the Bibliography dependent upon the amount of available research in any particular subject area. Political correctness has become an important issue in academia, and because of its impact on faculty rights and academic freedom we have included articles from this area. Some topics where research and publication have decreased have been incorporated into more general categories. We removed the heading "Collective Bargaining - Canada" due to the extensive representation of Canada in all areas covered in this bibliography. We have expanded the subject index which should provide increased access to the information contained in this bibliography, including citations covering Canada. This Bibliography is an annual accounting of the current state-of-the-art research and writings in collective bargaining in higher education and the professions. The research design and methodology used in the preparation of this volume relied on computer searches of various data bases. For publications not available through that format, manual retrieval of citations was employed. Sources include: books, monographs, dissertations, journals, periodicals, research and conference papers, and newspaper articles. In addition to the Bibliography, the annual publications of the National Center include the Directory of Faculty Contracts and Bargaining Agents in Institutions of Higher Education, Proceedings of our annual conference and a quarterly Newsletter. The Center

S also issues occasional monographs on selected topics. An impartial, nonprofit research institute of Baruch Collegeof the City University of New "ork, the National Center serves as a clearinghouse andforum for those engaged in collective bargaining (and the related processes of grievanceadministration) in colleges

and universities. This volume marks the introduction of a new researcher and editorto the project,

Associate Professor, Ida B. Lowe, a librarian at Baruch College.Prof. Lowe is responsible for the data collection, selection and compilation of this issueof the Bibliography. Beth Johnson, the Administrative Director of the Center, wasresponsible for the overall supervision and direction of this project. We are mostappreciative of the efforts of these two individuals which stand as a measure of theirquality and success. While we believe that this publication is accurate with respectto citations, titles and other bibliographic information, we apologize for any errors oromissions which might

have occurred. As always, we welcome feedback from you, thereader, and are grateful for your comments. We hope that thisBibliography will be of assistance to you in your various research projects.
