Strong language and profanity Theatricality and movement – how much is too much? Reading while performing Slicks vs. no slicks Programs – One voice vs. Separate voices Remember this is an educational experience! Prose, Category A
Inspiring My Journey Heroes/heroines or survivors Single work only, fiction or non-fiction, can be two or more authors or written anonymously Introductions must include WHY or HOW that piece fits the contestants idea of a hero. “May include short stories, myths, legends, folk tales, science fiction, memoirs, and novels.” No speeches or plays. Cannot be same author as category B. Prose, Category B
Expanding the Journey Thematic program using two different TYPES of sources. Cannot use poetry, songs lyrics, musicals, jokes, commercials, plays or novels written in verse. Intro or transitions state types of literature and authors. Also needs to include significance of theme. Poetry, Category A
Journey Through Time Thematic program to examine a decade or a social/political movement. Program must include two or more poems or excerpts by two or more poets. Must be published in hard copy. Song lyrics may only be used as transitions, unless published as poetry, and must be stated in intro. Intro needs identify significance of decade or movement. Poetry, Category B
Journey With Poets Poetryfoundation.org – Poem(s) written by one or more poets whose biography appears on the website. Can be woven. Must be poetry – essays, etc on the website cannot be used. Documentation
