I am grateful to an expansive community of people who have assisted me with this project. DIALOGUES with a DEAD FRIEND
The Author Barry Rosenberg overcame the trauma of being born in Philadelphia by finding a home on a seven mile beach in New Zealand at age 47. Between those two points in time, he did PR for establishments as diverse as the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System and the Philadelphia Eagles (he was fired from both) and wrote freelance feature articles for major magazines. In the 1970s he was America’s most popular teacher of mindpower, a position he also held Down Under during the ’80s. Author of the non-fiction book FEARBUSTING Backpacking the World Past 60, he still traipses around remote parts of the world every year. For Timothy, who started the ball rolling; for Peggy, of course, who picked it up, crossed the goal line, and is still running with it; and for Anita: how could a woman as beautiful as you have loved such a funny-looking galoot as me? Yearwood 1 Like Salt Water¼ A Memoir Stacia Yearwood Yearwood 2 For my Family- Those who have gone before me, Those who Live now, And those who will come to cherish these words in the future¼. Yearwood 3 Proem Not, in the saying of you, are you said. Baffled and like a root stopped by a stone you turn back questioning the tree you feed. But what the leaves hear is not what the roots ask. Inexhaustibly, being at one time what was to be said and at another time what has been said the saying of you remains the living of you never to be said. But, enduring, you change with change that changes and yet are not of the changing of any of you. Ever yourself, you are always about to be yourself in something else ever with me. NASA JOHNSON SPACE CENTER ORAL HISTORY PROJECT ORAL HISTORY TRANSCRIPT JACK R. LOUSMA INTERVIEWED BY CAROL L. BUTLER HOUSTON, TEXAS – 7 MARCH 2001 BUTLER: Today is March 7, 2001. This oral history with Jack Lousma is being conducted for the Johnson Space Center Oral History Project in the studio at JSC in Houston, Texas. Carol Butler is the interviewer. Thank you very much for joining us today. LOUSMA: I'm glad I could be a part of this history. It was a long time ago we began, and we have a long way to go yet, but I think it's an important job. BUTLER: A very important job, and I'm glad that you can be here to share it with us. I'm looking forward to it. LOUSMA: I hope I can tell you something you don't know already. BUTLER: I'm sure you can. I'm sure you can. There's a lot still to learn about it and a lot to learn from the history to apply to the programs of today. LOUSMA: I think when we piece everybody's history together, we'll all see something new that we didn't realize before, and we'll say, "Gee, I didn't realize that happened because of this," and we'll probably put together a whole lot of other things that we have been curious about for a long time. BUTLER: Absolutely. And everyone always has a different perspective on the same situation. 7 March 2001 1 Johnson Space Center Oral History Project Jack R. -

CZECH (Under the Direction of John Weaver) ABSTRACT This project opens space for looking at the world in a musical way where “jamming” with music through playing and listening to it helps one resist a more standardized and dualistic way of seeing the world. Instead of having a traditional dissertation, this project is organized like a record album where each chapter is a Track that contains an original song that parallels and plays off the subject matter being discussed to make a more encompassing, multidimensional, holistic, improvisational, and critical statement as the songs and riffs move along together to tell why an arts-based musical way of being can be a choice and alternative in our lives.
