  • The Leather Nun –Whatever – Nytt Album
2015-01-28 15:00 CET The Leather Nun –Whatever – Nytt album The Leather Nun är tillbaka. - The R’n’R God sent us Leather Nun and I fucking love them, som videoregissören Jonas Åkerlund (Prodigy, Madonna, Metallica, U2 m fl) formulerat det.

This text was originally written for students at the Institute of Popular Music at the Uni- versity of Liverpool. It has, however, been used by many outside that institution. The aim of this document is to address recurrent problems that many students seem to experience when writing essays and dissertations. Some parts of this text may initially seem quite formal, perhaps even trivial or pedantic. If you get that impression, please remember that communicative writing is not the same as writing down commu- nicative speech. When speaking, you use gesture, posture, facial expression, changes of volume and emphasis, as well as variations in speed of delivery, vocal timbre and inflexion, to com- municate meaning.

Throughout 1983 and 1984, the band toured across North America releasing their self-titled debut album in June, 1984. The album went Platinum and featured four hit singles: “New Girl Now,” “Burning In Love,” “Wave Babies” and “Stay In The Light.” Their second album, The Big Prize was released in February, 1986 … it also went Platinum and featured four hit singles: “Feel It Again,” “What Does It Take,” “All Along You Knew” and “Bad Attitude” which was featured on the series finale of NBC’s “Miami Vice.” That same year, they won a Juno Award for “Group of the Year.” In 1987, they released their third album, Racing After Midnight … a slightly harder-edged, more guitar- oriented album that spawned a European tour with Status Quo and a headlining tour across Canada. Student ID: XXXXXX ENGL3372: Dissertation Supervisor: Dr. Richard Brown Faith, Selfhood and the Blues in the Lyrics of Nick Cave Table of Contents Introduction 2 Chapter One – ‘I went on down the road’: Cave and the holy blues 4 Chapter Two – ‘I got the abattoir blues’: Cave and the contemporary 15 Chapter Three – ‘Can you feel my heart beat?’: Cave and redemptive feeling 25 Conclusion 38 Bibliography 39 Appendix 44 Student ID: ENGL3372: Dissertation 12 May 2014 Faith, Selfhood and the Blues in the lyrics of Nick Cave Supervisor: Dr. Richard Brown INTRODUCTION And I only am escaped to tell thee. So runs the epigraph, taken from the Biblical book of Job, to the Australian songwriter Nick Cave’s collected lyrics.1 Using such a quotation invites anyone who listens to Cave’s songs to see them as instructive addresses, a feeling compounded by an on-record intensity matched by few in the history of popular music. From his earliest work in the late 1970s with his bands The Boys Next Door and The Birthday Party up to his most recent releases with long- time collaborators The Bad Seeds, it appears that he is intent on spreading some sort of message. This essay charts how Cave’s songs, which as Robert Eaglestone notes take religion as ‘a primary discourse that structures and shapes others’,2 consistently use the blues as a platform from which to deliver his dispatches. The first chapter draws particularly on recent writing by Andrew Warnes and Adam Gussow to elucidate why Cave’s earlier songs have the blues and his Christian faith dovetailing so frequently.

It's four in the morning and frcm where we sit, this Final Issue looks like a keeper. We've put a ton of time and energyinto this particular edition, and we think you'll have lots of fun with the overview. After all, with some 90 + stations responding to our sur- vey, it's basically your window on RockWorld as it went down this past year. The first year of any new business is hell on wheels, (Groanong, creaking, barking dog sound efx, please) and we've seen quite a parade in '87. When I look back over my final comments last year (after nine issues), it sounded as if we had moved mountains. And in a way we had, starting from scratch to a full service publication some 140 stations deep. But in the 12 months since, it has become readily apparent that we were barely walking then. We've extended our reporter roster well past the 200 mark; Our New Alternative and Hard Rock sections have inspired numerous imitators, and our combi- nation of high technology and people power has effectively re -defined what a tip sheet can and will be in the years to come.

  • Junior Boys B.B.C. English Info
The white noise backdrop of modern life means that without some fine-tuning on our part, even established and progressive artists can become elusive on occasion. But since musical creativity involves a healthy drive to self-determination and often a keen collaborative spirit, out of earshot doesn’t necessarily mean out of action. Certainly not in the case of Junior Boys, who’ve readied a new album, Big Black Coat - due for release on 5 February 2016. A strikingly energised and intuitively dynamic set that reconnects them to their techno roots without sacrificing their soulful pop nous or riding a revivalist wave, it’s also shaped by what Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus have been doing in the five years since their last release. The Hamilton, Ontario duo have racked up four albums since they formed in 1999, including their 2004 debut Last Exit and 2006’s So This Is Goodbye, two rapturous – and rapturously received – records that were as poignant as they were impeccably produced, and prefigured Album: ‘Big Black Coat’ the digital R&B so beloved of many an artist in the last few years. Two albums followed, the Cat No: Slang50089 Format: CD / LP / Digital last in 2011, by which time high expectation had begun to leach the fun from making records. Release: 05.02.2016 Label: City Slang The years since then have been filled with nourishing independent pursuits. Greenspan released two solo singles and a collaborative EP on Jiaolong, the label run by his old friend and fellow Hamiltonian Dan Snaith (aka Caribou, Daphni – Greenspan also mixed several TRACKLISTING songs from Swim).
